Why don't you just give your tattoo artist a call and ask. He or she, should have already given you after care instructions though. I have 4 tattoo's and got different advice from each artist. All of mine healed just fine, and I love them!!

do NOT...and i repeat do NOT use vaseline...vaseline will only extract the color and make it fade...!!

depending on how new the tattoo is...i would stick to using a tattoo salve until it scabs and its done scabbing. you would just apply a thin layer enough to cover it up and there you are done...BUT dont just apply it twice a day like someone had mentioned...you apply it however many times you have to if you feel that its drying up, thats the whole point to keeping it moisturized....so that you dont let it dry up...
you can also try UNscented lubriderm if you cant find a tattoo salve....and do the same thing as if it was a salve.
after its done healing...you can switch over to cocoa butter to keep the nice colors...(since it brings out colors...especially blacks!)

For the first few days do not put anything on your tattoo. Just wash it twice a day with anti-bacterial soap use your fingers to rub soap around, and rinse with warm water, and pat dry.
After the first couple days you can put AQUAPHOR (can be found in the lotion aisle at any drug store) a small amount enough to have a thin layer over the tattoo ***DONT USE A&D OR NEOSPORIN***

AND use alcohol free and fragrance free lotion,

Use just enuff cream to keep the tatoo moist. Dont use too much cream. Its best to keep it covered for the first 2 or 3 days.

I have a small tattoo on my wrist i put the cream on twice a day and it healed lovely. Tried to avoid scratching it when it starts to itch though, otherwise you can pick the tattoo off. If the itching gets really bad try pressing something cold on it like a bag of frozen peas.

i have 6 tattoos and i put "tattoo goo" on them every time i got out of the shower or if they felt dry. once they scab up you will probably need to apply it more often, never let it get really dry and don't pick the scab off. good luck

My sister has a few tattoos and she swears by A & D ointment, which as most parents know is for baby diaper rash. Try it and see how that works out for you.

I don't know anything about a "cream". I have five tattoo. For everyone, I used vaseline to keep it moisturized. They all look beautiful. NO SCRATCHING or RUBBING. PERIOD. Keeping it moisturized should help. If it starts to itch anyway, just pat it.

When i got mine.. he gave me a pill bottles worth... i didn't even use half. I think your supposed to put it on 2 a day for the 1st week or so. I put it on when my tat started to peel just so the scab didn't rip off and damage the design.
