For men, sports!
Dad and son can play football together......or tennis, racketball, etc........
Mom and daughter can practice bakery, cake decoration (and make them men happy!!) arts and crafts like sewing, quilting.......
another nice idea is to learn a new language together......
I´m not going to propose something so common as going shopping because that is not a hobby.
Other things such as painting, drawing, singing,....are really more for individuals than mother daughter - thing.
I can´t wait for my daughter to grow up so I can start doing things with her!

For a mother and daughter, scrapbooking is a good activity to do together. I've done this with both of my kids (son and daughter) since they were 3 and 4. I let them each have their own book and use any extra stickers and photos I have left over from when I work on my books. They have a lot of fun and this gives them lots practice in cutting, glueing and writing (I let them journal about the pictures)

A hobby is an interest. I would say arts and crafts, hiking, bird watching, gardening etc etc.
