Well contrary to popular belief POP TARTS is not a nutritious breakfast by any means.

The brain needs PROTEIN in the morning (peanut butter is ideal) and nutrition to get it going.

I make my kids a smoothie with either soya milk or regular milk, bananas (and/or strawberries) and add a pouch of Carnation instant breakfast. Then they have a slice of PJ and Jam and a small shot of OJ before I send them off to the day.

You are probably not getting enough rest, enough nutrition, are too stressed, and if you are malnourished it's possible you are anemic (low blood or low hemoglobin) which can make you feel dizzy, weak and like passing out.

Unless you've got a flu bug or cold, I would go get checked out..get a blood test.

If you are just under the weather because you haven't been looking after yourself I suggest you start.

Teenagers are especially vulnerable to feeling that way, especially girls and especially during or after their periods. So take care to get extra iron at that time and eat meat or fish or brazil nuts which are loaded with iron. Take vitamins or have nutritious drinks like soya milk and milk and other things from the Canada Food Guide (or whatever you use in the US) and try to make good nutrition part of your everyday life.

What I recommend is you buy a pouch of TRAIL MIX...the nuts and fruits etc. that you can buy from a health food or bulk food store.

Always carry a bag with you in your purse and when you feel weak eat up.

Nuts and grains are so good for you and loaded with good nutrients. Seeds like pumpkin and sesame seeds are so good for you too...so make your own trail mix pack if you can't find it....raisins, nuts, seeds, dried cranberries/bananas/pineapples, etc.

PS, you shouldn't just eat mints...eating sugar causes your blood to rise and crash...that can actually add to your problem of passing out. Try the trail mix and you'll see you will feel much better. Carry a zip log bag of it in your purse at all times and do drink lots of water and soya/milk/juice instead of pop.

I agree with the other person that wrote about the effects of sugar on your body. From what I've learned, sugar tends to burn off much, much faster than whole grains and proteins. (It takes your stomach longer to digest proteins especially, making you "feel fuller" longer).

When you injest a high sugar product (such as 2 pop tarts), your body's blood sugar spikes really high, but because it burns off quickly, your blood sugar drops again, making your body feel like it's "crashing." It's like a roller coaster, up. down. up. down.

The problem with eating really high sugar things all the time and not taking in anything nutritious is that your body is taking in mostly "empty calories" and those kinds of calories have no nutritional value. Your body isn't benefitting from those calories.

I've read that you should be getting no less than 1,200 calories each day...ever. Make sure that you are taking in enough calories in your daily food intake. I have heard several health websites and doctors recommend that you eat several smaller meals throughout the day, rather than 3 large ones, because it keeps your body at more balanced levels.

I know that I experience the same symptoms whenever I don't eat something with nutrient-rich calories and/or if I don't eat for awhile. It feels like the world is "in water" and like my head "is swimming." It's like you're not totally in control of your body and you feel like you're sort of floating and like you'll pass out any minute. It's a scary feeling, I've been there before, so I know how you feel. My dizziness usually goes away after eating too.

I would also suggest contacting your doctor just to be safe. It sounds like a drop in blood sugar, but they will probably want to test you for either hypoglycemia and/or diabetes just to be sure.

I would also suggest asking the doctor whether or not you need to be tested for a food allergy and/or if you maybe have a sinus infection. Both could possibly cause you to be dizzy, although it sounds more like a drop in blood sugar because it occurred an hour after eating. Get it checked. Your health is important, because you are important. Take care of yourself. :)

Watch your sugar. You probably have low blood sugar. When you eat to much sugar your body over-reacts by making to much insulin. Right opposite of a diabetic. Then it causes it to drop. I have the same problem. Don't eat anything sweet early in the morning, it seems to be the worst time for it to act up. When you start feeling like that get some orange juice of a piece of candy. Not much, or you will start all over again. Just about an ounce of juice or so. Go to the doctor and ask for a sugar test.

That happens to me too when I eat junky for breakfast. I'll feel dizzy for a long time. Make sure you're drinking enough water too, because now that I drink lots of water I rarely get that feeling anymore.

Because you ate nothing but crap for breakfast. All that sugar. That's why you felt like you were going to pass out. Your sugar went way up and then crashed.
