Original sin and Adam and Eve have always sounded kind of strange to me. Especially the part about this "sin" having gone down through generations. While it has always seemed to be a myth to me (not historical fact) , if it really is a myth then what was the whole point of Jesus dying for our "sin", of reconciling us to God because of Adam and Eve's original sin???? I don't want a lot of bible quotes please.

Let me say that since we can't prove Adam and Eve really lived, nor that original sin ever happened therefore. If this is the case then it makes the case of Jesus dying for "sin" pointless. I'm not trying to be heretical, I'm just totally confused.

The notion of original sin appeared due to the influence of the Chrisitan religious leaders, maybe as a way of controlling their followers. There is no such thing in the Bible or in Islamic tradition, which is also of Abrahamic origin.

From Wikipedia:
According to Christian tradition, original sin is the general condition of sinfulness (lack of holiness) into which human beings are born (Psalm 51:5). Original sin is also called hereditary sin, birth sin, or person sin. Used with the definite article ("the original sin"), it refers to the first sin, committed when Adam and Eve succumbed to the serpent's temptation. This Biblical story of original sin is the sign and seed of future evil choices and effects for the whole human race. Christians usually refer to this first sin as "the Fall". Original sin is distinguished from actual sin as cause and effect: "a bad tree bears bad fruit" (Matthew 7:17, NIV). Original sin is not "personal" (in the modern sense of this word)—in that it is not the consequence of personal choice or personal failure to act—but nevertheless it is "personal" in the sense that every individual person is personally subject to the effects of original sin.

To Jews, the idea of "original sin" is simply odd and seemingly negative, but it is key teaching for most Christians. In line with the Hebrew Tradition, contemporary Christian theologian Matthew Fox's doctrine of "original blessing" is sometimes used in contrast to original sin so as to recall, on the other hand, the many blessings of Creation with which God blesses the human race.

In Islam:
The Qur'an recounts the story of Adam and Eve in a similar way to that of the Bible. According to Qur'an, Eve was not the delayed product of Adam’s rib (as in the tradition for Christians and Jews); the two were born from a single soul. It was Adam, not Eve, who let the devil convince them to eat the forbidden fruit.[1] Both repented and both were forgiven.
[...]
That is to say, all children are born without sin in the state of purity.

If you believe that Jesus Christ is your personal Lord and Savior than you have to believe in the original sin of Adam and Eve. Two main reasons, one point you've already made and that is what did Jesus die for? He paid the price for our sin before we were even born. He knew that because of the original sin everyone was going to be born with a sinful nature and a need for salvation.

Secondly, if you believe that the story of Adam and Eve is a myth (or any other story in the Bible) then that raises the question of is anything in the Bible factual. How can the holy word of God be factual in some areas and not in others. God does not fabricate or deceive, therefore I believe that all the stories in the Bible are historical.

Well that is the whole point, isn't it? If there was no original sin, then why did Jesus give His life on the cross for our sin? But I think that the effects of the original sin are pretty well obvious and very observable in individuals and the world around us.

Ultimately, the choice is, are you going to believe what the Bible says, or not? Those are the only two choices. If you do believe the Bible, then it's all true. If not, then you have no basis for salvation through Jesus Christ, because the Bible is the only book that reveals Him as the Savior of the world. You have to take it or leave it.

i can tell you if the story of adam and eve is correct according to the bible it was Adam and Eve that sinned that caused all of US to be born into this mortal toil.
as i understand it, the saviour died Not for US but for them. The rest of us are allowed to be given salvation by grace, which is free. We are NOT under the punishment that was given to Adam and Eve, but we do have its legacy. No one is required to work 6 days but we do sweat with our labor. We also have air conditioning. LoL.
as the correct terminology of Jesus dieing for our SINs is merely a gramatically error, Jesus Died because He preached against sin, and taught people that Life is Much Better and more fulfilling without sin. He died because he considered a seditious man and by the conspiracy of only a few religious jews who DID not know the truth from their pile of crap. They believed him to be a blasphemer and a servant of satan. They liked their High and Holy positions and loved to be seen in the syagogues and the temple and politically had much wealth and power. I think they even dipped into the business of the money changers as well.
Also, when it comes to adam being in transgression, the writer of timothy in ch.2 says he was not deceived, so there is no sin from Him. It was Eve who was deceived and is counted guilty of transgression. But nevertheless others have taught that the reason Adam ate the forbidden was he was also KEEPING the Marriage that God had joined him unto. He knew he was going to die because he had resisted all of satans temptation and was faithful to God all his days.
The book of urantia also has an interesting Tale to tell about this historical event.

Many don't believe in original sin. This is not a biblical principle. However, because of Adam and Eve, we all exist and all of us have the same opportunities to choose as they did. We all end up choosing to partake of forbidden things, thus, we sin, just as our first parents did.

Before Adam and Eve there was no sin in the world. So, through one man, Adam, sin entered the world. The redemption of Christ is that, He is the second Adam. Through Him, sin was made of no account. Through one man sin entered the world and through one man the penalty for that sin was paid for. We can now have reconciliation with the Father by accepting the sacrifice that His Son offered on our behalf. Say that your g-g-g-g-g-g-grandfather stole a gazillion dollars and passed it down through all of your generations to you, but you and your ancestors spend it all. The time comes when the one the money was stolen from demands repayment, you no longer have it to repay. Because it is such a huge amount, you are going to be executed if you don't repay it. Someone who loves you steps up and offers to repay the debt for you rather than have you face death. For this to work, you must agree to accept the payment from the one who loves you and agree to let it be applied to your account. This is the concept of salvation. Your debt is paid if only you will accept it and let this payment be applied to you.

Adam and Eve were perfect humans. Once they sinned, by their disobedience, they lost favor with God and all their offspring paid the price by their imperfection. Meaning they would now get sick and die and also have sinful tendencies.

Jesus beginning a perfect human bought back what Adam lost. We then again can have the hope of living forever and forgiveness of our sins.

the belief of unique sin does not exist. that's been wrongly surpassed around with tips from church homes. God has a concern to His power in that He can't create a spiritually suitable being. The being has a spirit yet has to mature to perfection. the final thank you to try this by way of obedience to God and studying classes. Adam and Eve have been examined for their obedience, no longer because of the fact God needed to trick them as an excellent sort of, many human beings have wrongly assumed. bear in mind what happened till now Adam and Eve, a huge war in Heaven from a disobedient and grasping angel named Lucifer. He wasn't happy with being in cost of the earth. He needed each and every thing, to comprise God's throne. like the angels, human beings have loose ethical business enterprise to obey God, disobey God or to insurrection. Rebelling normally is greater concern than its properly worth. So who's going to get to be in cost of the Earth? Christ. He surpassed the obedience try.

God created both Adam and Eve, they had no sin in them.
The serpant tempted Eve and caused both Eve and Adam to sin.
They ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Therefore the knowledge of evil became a part of their being.

However God did not create their offspring.
Adam and Eve created their offspring and this capacity to sin has been in mankind ever since.

If you look at the history of man, you certainly will become aware that sin does exist in the lives of men.

In order for God to be able to allow them in His presence, He had to remove the sin from man.
So Jesus became man in order to take the sins of man upon himself and die for them.

How can you expect answers, when you refuse to listen to the source of them? The original sin was rebellion against God. The "sin" past down is the on going tendencies to continue to do so. Man (Adam) was given dominion over the earth. When he disobeyed God, he gave that authority to satan. That is why Jesus the Christ came to earth, to get it back for us. But first, you must accept Him into your heart. YBIC
