Lets see, the Brits were once responsible for Grenada and couldn't hang onto to it so the gave them independence. Same story in Iraq. They were in Afghanistan 100+ years ago and got their asses kicked out, and finally were in Somalia and couldn't hang onto that either (like they couldn't with 99.9% of their colonies) and had to grant them independence. The story today is that everyone likes to complain about countries(Iraq, Iran, etc.) but doesn't want to do anything so the US always has to step up and play the bad guy and then has to suffer the international backlash. They're damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Scotty 123: I would respectfully suggest that you go and do a little reading about Vietnam and not rely on what you're told. Before Tet in 1968 the North Vietnamese were losing the war and they knew it. The US and SVN armies were killing more NVA than could be recruited and infiltrated south, their infrastructure was in shambles, the VC were nearly destroyed, the SVN communist party ceased to exist, and the USSR was pushing for the N Vietnamese to come to a peace agreement. Although they got their asses handed to them in Tet, the NV saw that the American public, NOT the military didn't have the will to continue. The academics and the American media caused the public to change their opinion. In Vietnam, the soldiers fought as well and as bravely as their fathers and brothers did in WWII and Korea, they didn't lose the war the losers were the people at home who turned on them. Also keep in mind that American troops were gone in I believe 1972 or 73 and Saigon fell in 1975, so technically the SVN lost the Vietnam War. That being said they should never have been their in the first place. And the Brits have a great track record against insurgents too don't they? The American Revolution, N. Ireland, the Boer War, Afghanistan, did you win all of those? Didn't think so. And I'm glad that you would put your money on the American soldier ;)

America do stick up for friends, however reading some of the comments on here America obviously also contains some very narrow minded individuals who obviously think that they are above everyone else, Shame really that such a geographically beautiful country can contain such an ugly collection of big headed people. America should know better than most to never under estimate a small country.. even the big kid in the playground can get floored by the little kid. that reminds me of a war about 35 years ago in south east Asia...think it was Vietnam.. PS put one British soldier against one US soldier and see who would be better..i know where my money would be...

Pick on? We actually have a cause. Tell me when you did something useful in your life. Well, if we are so weak, and didn't gain or independence, why do we have it. We have a saying here in the USA," Freedom isn't Free." If you have any other questions as to why we are the world's greatest, ask yourself, "Can we or any other country overpower them?" If you have a little doubt, the answer is probably NO. Well, also being a part of the World's Greatest Navy has said much to the people around the world. We are the only country that can sail the oceans and not be afraid to be challenged. Thanks alot.

on the entire, i don't think of that u . s . a .'s anger over cutting-edge political tendencies is inevitably particularly as quiet simply by fact the object shows. whether, the object is actual the main suitable option that a extensive proportion of human beings, at the same time as not inevitably going public approximately it, are angered with the aid of the present tendencies. i'm not as vocal as some are approximately it, yet i'd desire to upload that throughout so asserting that I communicate completely for myself, not different self-pointed out conservatives. whether, I certainly have been very much aggravated with the aid of the undeniable fact that the government seems to have despatched the point of government spending to absolutely stratospheric tiers, with out regard to what value would be paid with the aid of successive generations of human beings. this is not sufficient, it type of feels, to have cutting-edge entitlements properly on the line to financial ruin. As those days as final month, yet yet another entitlement application has been extra contained in this type of an interminably long wellbeing care bill that would in prepare entail a important leap interior the path of finished government administration of the yankee scientific sector - a circulate that this united states of america will, i'm confident, long lament, if the constitutional annoying circumstances to the bill do not postpone. precisely how this could play out interior the elections this 365 days continues to be to be seen (i think of that it may be unwise on my section to invest on 2012 and later years). at the same time as I do have faith that the Democrats can pay heavily for the present administration's radical rules, i could strongly propose the Republican party to not get too cocky approximately its potentialities, as particularly some conservatives have noted the possibility of a 0.33 party - an theory which in prepare could have the consequence of dividing the competition, making it a approaches much less efficient than it otherwise could be.

No matter how hard anyone thinks the USA is the fact that they have enough firepower to destroy any country in the world is enough to make me not want to pick a fight with them.

America is a great nation, they look upon the rest of the world as business opportunities in waiting. After the two world wars they helped out in they became mega rich with a minimal amount of cost to themselves, and for 50+ years they have been reminding us how they won the war and the peace for the rest of us.

But having said that I would rather have Hollywood making war movies according to the gospel of saint yank than revolution movies according to the gospel of saint Stalin or Saint Adolf.

I for one am glad that to be in the tent with the yanks watching them pee out rather than watch them be outside peeing in.

A lot of British Mamas cried before you stepped into the world wars and a lot of British mamas cried when your tank busters blew their sons away even sporting friendly force signatures and markings on their vehicles in the Gulf.....However I still thank god for the good old USA taking the stance.

America fights for the rights of people who can't stand up for themselves. The Taliban were wreaking havoc in Afghanistan, we weren't content with sitting and watching innocents die, same deal with Iraq.

Bullies are bad, America fights tyrants and terrorists. Bad analogy.

they are "hard" due to the sheer weight of hardware and people they can throw at a war. they'd be much less dangerous if they actually had a clue what they were doing.

they won't pick on china or russia, or the other "hard" kids in the playground.

You're in England?

Then why does America still have an Air Force base there? My cousin served there....

Looks to me, if you have American forces stationed there, that you can't do it by yourself.
