windows vista was going to be called longhorn and it was in testing hence the beta version, when it was released they settled on vista as the name.

every software is given a code name in the Beta stage, Windows Xp was called Whistler, Windows Vista was called Longhorn.

One is junk in testing and the other is junk that has been officially released.
