I write for a food blog and recently I did a piece on three chocolatiers - including Godiva, Ghirardelli, and Lindt. As I mention in the post, I think Godiva makes excellent chocolate. The flavors are smooth and rich. One of my favorites is the raspberry dark chocolate carmel. The raspberry is intense and the dark chocolate is deep without tasting to bitter. I hope this helps. Whereas Godiva is very good (and quite expensive), better, equally well packaged chocolates can be found in countless shops in Belgium. There are also a number of small chocolatiers popping up all over the US in the same manner as did microbreweries some years back...Jacques Torres' shop Mr. Chocolate and Mariebelle in New York come to mind and the hands-on way of making chocolate, in my opinion yields a far better product than the mass-produced Godiva.

Freebird's answer of "silk" is actually quite good. If silk were a food, it would be Godiva chocolate.
To take a piece and savor it can be almost an otherwordly experience, if you give yourself into the moment.

rich, decadent, creamy and delish.. it coats your mouth but not with a heavy aftertaste like other chocolates. its so expensive because of the quality of ingredients that they use.
godiva only tastes like any other type of chocolate to those that dont know the difference...

It's like fine silk, I don't know how else to describe it. If you ever had any you'd understand why it's so expensive.
