I would be fine with that, because now of days you have to protect yourself against stalkers, sex preditors, and hackers! As long as the truth comes out in the end, that's all that matters. And the truth is you can't trust no one on the internet that you don't know already.

I am really not an expert on online dating or the single life, but I feel that it is a terrific way to protect yourself. If you two get serious though, of course lying about anything isn't cool. Also, since you are getting comfortable with this person open up a little about this experiance with the stalker, then it will make even more sense.

No I don't think it is a big deal. I can see the reason why you would give them a different name because you never know. But telling them a few weeks after your real name shows that you have trust in them. Just explain to that person the reason why you gave them a fake name and I am sure they will understand.

I see no need to use a fake name, but Its perfectly understandible. I notice alot of people do, infact the majority. What is up with that anyhow? Is it paranoia or are some just up to no good so they try to hide their identity. Either way its the law for the internet team to track all sites we go to and monitor all communications and keep the record for three years. Whatever. Just tell the truth, I dont think she will care.

this whole thing sounds ridiculous. NEVER make the mistake of liking someone over the internet, not unless you've seen them in person. You need to be around a person you think you'll want to have a relationship with. No amount of emails, phone calls, or instant messages can tell you how you feel just by being around someone in the same physical location!! Online dating is hard enough as it is and women will always have their guard up. My advice to you is get off the internet and meet women in person boy!

it's fine, however, it will reveal to them that there might be more hidden stuff. Which can be sort of a turn-off as far as them liking you. You'd have to assert to them somehow that you've been honest with everything else.
Considering you had a previous stalker, I think it's pretty understandable, anyone who would otherwise disagree would be sorta wrong in their decision to do so, so if this person gets mad.. I wouldn't be too broken down over it. Either way, good-luck! I'm sure however they take it, you'll be fine.

I never used my real name when using the internet for online dating, and I told them that. NO ONE got a real name or phone number until I met them in person. Nothing wrong with being safe, and concealing your identity. Just be up front about it.

Well... no it isn't a big deal but learn something form the experience. Next time you begin to chat with someone frequently, tell them right up front or earlier in the game that your name is an alias... That way they'll be prepared for it when you finally tell them that you're actually Clark Kent, an ordinary reporter for the Metropolis Daily Planet newspaper.
Good luck..

It's not such a big deal. You were protecting self and that's important. You have to be careful these days because some crazy folks will wait you out 2/3/4/5...weeks/months to do you harm so you did the right thing, don't sweat it.

I agree, it's fair enough. It's good to be guarded in conversations on the internet and if you explain then the person will understand. Just be careful that the person you are talking to is who they actually say they are and not someone else... Try to keep your guard up in some senses or you could end up getting hurt..
