Well the Bible says to put God bbefore the world. They weren't really so much rebelling as trying to find their own path towards spiritual truth. They believed God's authority was higher than man's , so by not "rebelling" against the earlthy leaders who were corrupting the religion, they would be rebelling against God's laws, which in religious terms is far worse than disobeying human leaders.

lol-funny...Ben Franklin did go to Satanist parties (in England); Thomas Jefferson was a deist but I don't think he believed the Satan aspect-
I did read at ffrf.org that less than half of the people on the Mayflower were there for religious reasons, though
haha-I just read 'Shonuffs' response that both the Jesus and Lucifer names mean the same thing-so I guess Christians are worshiping Satan-they just don't know it!
