I have a Mitsubishi 54" rear projection TV. It's about 8 years old, and works and looks great. It's a 3 color gun (typical) projection system.

My question: Would it be possible to take a HDTV tuner board and replace the current board -- to give me an HDTV with all else remaining the same? What would be the least expensive way to do this --if it's possible?

Thanks!

High Def TV isn't just signal, it's the actual display resolution: a standard definition TV has a resolution of 640x480 pixels while a 1080p TV will use 1920x1080 resolution. Being able to get an HD signal is only half the battle (and by far the cheapest part). You're stuck with standard definition on that TV.

And the FCC mandated digital TV, but since most TV is shot in HD anyways, more and more cable/satellite companies will be upping the HD content.

If someone hasn't come out with a universal HDTV tuner already they should be soon since the FCC is mandating the move from SDTV to HDTV. However even though you will be receiving an HDTV signal you will still be watching it in SDTV resolution

Nope, and I don't see it happening especially since the three gun system is about gone.

I don't believe the FCC has mandated SD to HDTV, they have mandated analog to Digital which does not mean HD, it only means digital.

For the time and money it would be a bit more cost effective to buy a new TV
