I have been going through a lot of life altering change this year and thinking of getting a new tattoo to represent "my rebirth" as I have to redefine myself

I want something like the pheonix rising from the ashes but also want all the things holding me back from reaching this point remembered, and was thinking of having a pheonix rising that was being held down by chains but it still managed to break free.

I'm not the best at tattoo imagery/symbology...my first tattoo was done on a whim, but I want my second one to be meaningful. Any insight on an image would be helpful, thanks!

This may sound cliche, but go to your artist and tell him all your thoughts.. they are pretty good at coming up with a drawing to suit exactly what you want. If you don't like the way it comes out, tell them, and they will revise it. Most good tattooist don't mind doing this at all and even see it as a challenge. It's your body and your rebirth... you want this to be exactly what you want, and if you find a good tattoo artist then they will help you out tremendously with this. =)

The wonderful thing about tattooing is that you can get whatever your heart desires. You could have an artist draw a pheonix however from any angle, in any style, in any color... youre not even restricted to a pheonix. Anything goes as long as its aesthetically pleasing to you and thats all that matters

It really depends on what YOU want, that sounds beautiful! Especially done right! I had a Lotus flower tattoo done for the same reasons, it's a symbol of new life, a flower that grows from the mud and murk in the bottom of the pond, to grow through that and reach the surface to bloom into a beautiful flower.

I'm planning on getting a tattoo of a Phoenix as well and here is what I would do if I were you... Find pictures of phoenixes that you like... then print them and bring them in the artist and tell him what you just said...

I did that except for I showed my other tattoos and said Make it match the style of the others... I'm interested in seeing what he is going to come up with I gave him freedom other wise...

Didja ever watch Maimi Ink? Bring in some pictures. DO your best to describe your idea to the artist. Let him or her draw you up something. Make changes as needed.

Get something original, don't just copy someone, unless it's a famous portrait.
