You really don't know he is gay so why don't you give him a test drive.
Meaning flirt with him and see how far he goes. Or you could asked him whether or not he is gay. But he might be keeping it a secret.
The best thing to do is to do the test drive thing. But be ready if he want more than the test drive. You must asked yourself would "I" go all the way if he is not gay.
