I would not forbid my child from any type of career that is legal. As long as they are happy with it and are making enough money to survive I would have no problems. There are some careers I would not be as happy about, like the military, but if that is what they really wanted to do I would not object.
I would be unhappy about the military because my FIL was a marine and thinks he is king everything and can do no wrong. I do not want my kid to act like that. My husband was in the Army and picked up very bad habits that I am trying so hard to break. Thank goodness he doesn't usually show them around our son because I don't want him picking them up. While I would have no problem with the military if it stuck to just the military but their attitudes completely change and disgusting habits are usually picked up.

I would never forbid my child from anything. You know how that goes... you forbid, they rebel and do the very thing you didn't want them to do in the first place.
As for strongly discourage... there's a few things. My husband and I both were professional athletes (rodeo). I would definitely dissuade my son from the rodeo path but if that's what he really wanted to do, I'd probably swallow my reservations and support him no matter what.
I'm in medicine now and there's a few fields in the medicinal area I would discourage.
Ultimately, he's going to make choices I probably won't like or agree with. All I can do is support him and hope he's made the right decisions and that I've given him a solid upbringing with the tools he needs to help make those decisions.

Nope. I've learned from experience that saying no is practically daring a person to do something. I bet if I keep my mouth shut, they won't even consider those professions. I used to say I'd never marry into 3 certain professions (legal, just dangerous). So of course my husband has a job on my no-no list! Not even gonna jinx my kid with forbidding them!

No.
Not that i can think of right now.
If they go to college, get a degree and earn a good hard living then it's not my right to deter them.

I can't forbid my kid to do anything as an adult but I think I would be disappointed if he was an abortion doctor or an owner of a "bunny ranch" type prostitution club.

My children aren't allowed to play football. Not just because I don't like the sport, I'll sit and watch a game with my husband but because they could get seriously injured. I just couldn't sit and watch my children get pounded into the grass.

A military career. Because it's dangerous and I'd prefer he not have a career in which he can be owned to such a degree. I'd prefer he have more say & creativity in what he does. For that, I'd strongly suggest against it.
