Godiva is outstanding chocolate, in terms of a mass-produced, widely available chocolate. A local choclatier may very well match or exceed their product, but may be even more expensive.
Godiva is a Belgian style chocolate, which means a creamy texture, a lot of hazelnut praline, and a smaller number of flavors per piece. One thing that definitely distinguishes Godiva compared to other mass-chocolatiers (See's, Hershey's, etc.) is that they use no wax in their chocolates--this causes their chocolate to need cool temperatures. Furthermore, Godiva (if bought at a Godiva store) will be fresh--they thow out their chocolate after it expires, and it expires much sooner than See's or other similar brands.
Godiva is expensive, but well worth the price, in small quantities.

Because Godiva is probably the best kind of chocolate in the world. With any sort of german chocolate in a very close second.
Plus, it's expensive cause it's "name brand chocolate"
Kinda like Jewel Mac n cheese as opposed to Kraft.

Actually, I'm not a Godiva fan. They seem to only make truffles and have no diversity in their product. I think Godiva is seriously overrated. Godiva is so expensive because they are selling their name, which has been PRd to death, not the chocolate which is very honestly, no better than any othere quality chocolate. There are far better Swiss, German, French and Italian chocolates, but for a reasonably priced, wide variety, excellent chocolate, I prefer Sees.
