Most nine-year-olds are pretty savvy. Unless he or she has been extremely isolated, I'd be surprised if he/she doesn't know what the Bible is already. Either way, I'd start with a children's Bible or illustrated Bible storybook written for that age group.
Bible: a collection of ancient writings that some consider a guide for living a good life and others consider a catalogue of unbelievable ideas, outmoded rules, and immoral behavior.

3 and 4 year olds can understand that the Bible is the Word of God. What are you asking? Methods to teach your 9 year old the Bible?

It is a how-to book from God. It teaches us how to live and how not to by direct commands, examples and illustrations. (2Timothy 3:16-17) It is the book that God used to tell about the past and the future.(2 Chronicles 9:29, 2Peter 1:20, Revelation 1:3)

That depends on weather or not you and or your child believe in the bible. If so you can tell your child it is a collection of books written approx. 2000 years ago by men who were writting down what God had given them to share with others and that these stories are true. Try reading it with them and explain it.

It is a compilation of stories written by people thousands of years ago to try to explain the world around them and to try to control the minds of their fellow people. It is a compilation of stories written by people who mentally were like children and are believed by people with the mental capacity of children. Ever notice that that old testament god was written in the same manner as most of the war gods of the period? That he was strict and quick to punish? The that god changed his whole manner.
Please tell your child that nothing in the bible is correct nor written by the people who are attributed to have written the stories. The new testament was written well after the people had died, and followed along the same lines as many religions of taking stories from other religions in order to be better accepted by the pagan people.

By nine years old these days, they should know what a biography is. You could try saying it's kind of like a biography. It is a cummulative writing to teach the word of God. The 1st testament is the part that is the part less argued about. The second testament is the part that is written by the desciples/apostles... and it has left room for interpretation. Offer your nine year old a bible and let him/her read it for him/herself to make her own interpretation.

If your 9 year old can't spot a book when he sees it, you've quite a problem. Other than that, I'd wait a few years and give it to him to read. Let him make up his own mind.

Tell your 9 year old the Bible is a book of the life and times of Jesus and his apostles and people around Jesus writing his works down for everyone to read and follow. But the interpetation is different for everyone who reads it. But the work is good work. Also it has everything in it to understand life.

A bible is a gift from God,one of many gifts, it is a special book for the whole families that tells us how to behave to be happy and loving and how not to behave.
