Its tough to get into, but start by befriending your piercer and staying loyal to them. Hopefully you can get an apprenticeship with them or someone they know. But until then, read up on what you can and learn everything you can about all sorts of piercings. There are few 'schools' that teach stuff like this, but often they do not do justice because you miss out on lots of vital information
Generally you will also want to take basic medical courses. They generally help with cross contamination reduction, what to do in case of ____, it will also help with knowledge of basic anatomy and nerve and skin structures.
Most people apprenticeship for a year or so. I did for 1.5 years and moved on my own after that. It was a pain finding a place to work that didn't treat me like crap. I wish you lots of luck.

its not hard to get into the industry as some might say, just go into your local piercing shop and ask either your top piercer or any if you dont really mind, and let them know that you are interested in doing an apprenticeship.
try to find a place that is reputable so taht you aren't stuck with those crappy places that have those retarded deals like a 2 for 1 deal...they are obviously just tryin to make money.
look at this site...its called The Association of Professional Piercers...they are HIGHLY reputable and well if you find a shop where they are associated with APP then there is your shop! Why? well because to be associated with APP you have to pass their standards and the piercers there have to undergo further piercing training and classes...etc....you'll feel great working/apprenticing with a shop that is associated with APP....Trust me!

i know some piercers and most of them went to the place, usually a tattoo shop that has piercing and also sells things like shirts, stickers, cd's body jewelery and other... stuff. anyway. they got a job there working as a cashier while expressing interest in learning how to pierce. most places will want you to work there for a while and prove that you actually are a good worker and will fit in at the shop. also they wouldn't want to train you only to have you go work somewhere else. so after you have worked there for a while you could start an apprenticeship. watching and practicing technique and then finally with supervision you'd be allowed to pierce. usually they let your friends come in and get pierced for free so you can get some practice in. anyway, good luck!

You need to find a professional Piercer that is willing to apprentice you. It is very hard to find one. I did my apprenticeship for 2 years, and then it took me over 3 years to find a shop that would actually hire me. It takes alot of hard, dirty work, and it can become frustrating at times, but I love doing it, so for me it is worth it. You will also to become certified in blood-bourne pathogens, and CPR is good to have, also. Anatomy classed helped me, as well as medical books to understand the muscles, nerves, veins, ect.
If you cruise around http://www.bmezine.com or http://www.safepiercing.org you might come across someone that is willing to apprentice someone just starting off. Other then that, Like Zombie said, become a loyal customer to your piercer, ask questions, and maybe they will teach you.
Good luck!!
