Because they are power hungry wankers. If that situation happened to me, I would have had a hard time not laughing at him. Seriously, you're out in the woods with no one else around and you take your dog off the leash to get the chance to run. I think thats a reasonable activity, it's not as if you brought him into a crowded mall and yelled "Attack!". To give you a ticket is ubsurd. Honestly!

You were breaking the law. Let's say you were walking in the woods and some other guy is there with his dog not on a leash. His dog attacks you. Who are you going to call? Are the police jerks then? A cop is doing his job when he writes a ticket. That is what he gets paid for. Maybe you were a jerk when he approached you. Did you argue with him? I'll bet you did. Your attitude is probably why you didn't get a break. How would you like to be called names all day long. You wouldn't. Most cops are good people. They are there to help you when you need it. Stop breaking the law, and you won't get tickets.

Also police DO NOT have quotas!! This is an urban legend. They DO NOT receive a portion of the fine. All fines go to the city/state in which they were given.

Depends on the cop, some are regular Barney Fifes when it comes to ANY infraction, others really don't care unless someone complains. My nephew got a ticket for the exact same thing, someone went and called the cops upon seeing him walking his Dobie in the park sans leash, and the cops came and ticketed him.

Every city has a leash law. It's as much for your own dog's protection as it is for everyone else. Maybe no one was there, but what if a stray cat popped up and your dog took off after it? He could be lost, or run into a road and hit, before you caught him again. So next time, just leash him.

BTW no they do not get part of the fines. Most cops aren't paid jack diddly. In my town they only make $8 an hour.

Obviously someone else was there - the cop! It's dangerous not to have your dog on a leash, it could run out in traffic, run off into the woods, another dog may come after it... Just put ur dog on a leash and quit bitching. Cops are not jerks - and if they appear to be it's because someone was a jerk to them. That's most professions. Get over it.

You are considered to be interfering. If you call the police, they show up, they are in charge until the matter is resolved... Period. You don't give orders to the officer, major blunder. If someone takes the time or has risen to the level of having to call the police, things are out of hand. The officer must think the worst (95% of the time, some situations are obvious), if not he risks his own life and those he is sworn to protect. There is a possibility that he may have been irritable due to the, from his perspective, silliness of the situation. Anyway, he was called in because those there could not handle the situation. If you could have done so, why was he called in? He may have had more important situations to deal with at that time.

There are no quotas. I think you are confusing the Officer being a jerk with doing his job. You are taking it way too personal. Your statement about "No one else was even there" is wrong, obviously the Officer was. There must be a law against letting your dog run free. A law that was enacted by the land owner or citizens of your town or state. Hate them, not the Officer. I find that the only people who hate the Police are the ones who refuse to obey the laws and rules set forth by society, who refuse to take responsibility for breaking the law when they think they are "Above" all other citizens. Come down off your high horse and be part of the solution and not the problem.

Leash laws may be insignificant for you however if your dog runs off and sinks its teeth into someone naturally you're liable. know why you got the ticket? Because cops nowadays are leery about "giving breaks". Say you're cut loose with a warning and then the dog bites someone. If it's found the cop came across you and did nothing then the cop/department gets sued as well. So...despite the clown who says quotas (illegal) and "small willys"...never saw mine buddy and I assure you...it ain't "small" by any stretch of the imagination...cops would gladly cut you loose if the great American pastime of sh*theads who refuse to accept responsibilty for their actions hadn't placed them there. Too bad....blame the pimps of the legal world..lawyers. there's where the real fault lies. Bceause lets face it...who ALWAYS gets paid and makes out? Even if you're carted off to jail? Yep...Lawyers.

Because there's a law about leashes and something could of made your dog dart away and in turn could scare or cause someone to run and hurt themselves. Keep em on a leash or you could get sued for a lot more than the cost of the ticket

Because they sometimes have to deal with people who are bigger jerks. Laws are in place for a reason, and maybe some cops could or would have given you a warning, but thats your side of the story, what about the cops side of the story.?????

I see alot of cry babies here @ Law Enforcement & Police. No, they don't get a part of the ticket. They do get paid to enforce the laws and rules and regulations. Don't get me wrong. I love dogs. I just hate Cry Babies. You would probably cry and moan and complain if they didn't do their job. Can't have it both ways. In my 27 years in Law Enforcement I have seen 3 types of people. The upper or wealthy class who think the law does not apply to them. The lower class who think the law is only applied to them and the middle class who think that the law should be applied to everyone else but them. Which one are you?
