What kind of paradise is it in which it is forbidden-under threat of loss of love and abandonment, of feeling guilty and ashamed-to eat from the tree of knowledge, ie, to ask questions and seek answers to them. Who was this contradictory God who had the need to create a curious Eve and at the same time forbid her to live according to her true nature? If Adam is not allowed to be aware of what is before his very eyes, he will direct his curiosity to goals far removed from himself as possible, but will always take anxious care not to let his gaze rest on the tree of knowledge planted right in front of him.
Is it surprising then that we prefer to take upon ourselves the hell of blindness, alienation, abuse, deception, subordination and loss of self rather than lose that place called Paradise, which offers us security, but at such a high price?

The high price is not obedience but disobedience. God is holy, righteous, and can not live in the presence of evil. He placed the tree of knowledge in the Garden to prove that we indeed were given full free will at creation. In other words we had the choice of obedience or disobedience. It was possible to not sin. We made the wrong choice. And so it is now not possible to not sin. We are separated from God physically because of that evil (a word whose root meaning in both Hebrew, Ra, and Greek, ponaros, mean spoiled or bad - as in man's relationship with God). This is the real high price of disobedience. But the good news is this - God wanted to redeem us so that we could once again live in his paradise and so he sent Jesus Christ, who as man, paid the price that was required of all sinful men, and who, as God, could alone save us by his death.
And keep in mind that it was the angel who had already fallen, Satan, who asked the question "did God really say that?", tempting man to go behind God's word and seek to find that which was in his way of thinking to his own benefit. Why question God? It is indeed like the clay pot questioning the potter as to why he made him as he did.

Before answering this question, I'd just like to respond to one of the answers by quoting two statements made:
"He did not intend for the devil to temp them and put curiousity into their heads"
"dont you understand that God saw this comin from the beginning"
So, Amber B, which is it?
As to the question itself, I agree with you. But the question is loaded and takes the bible a bit too literally.

everyone tries to blame things on God wow...such sorrow He endures daily for the past billion years....He made Eve for Adam... He did not intend for the devil to temp them and put curiousity into their heads...satan wanted to be God..and told them that this fruit was the only thing keeping them from being like a God..he made a plan against man and God to try to take all the power, but has failed miserably u see? dont you understand that God saw this comin from the beginning? HENCE why He made Christ before all things, so that He and His creation cud b together anyways, regardless of sin, so satan doesnt win...and we dont have to pay anything friend...all we have to do is understand the truth that is infront of us...thats pretty simple dont ya think? 5+6x1=11 ....thats the truth and u believe it, your teacher wud b happy ( in the 5th or 6th grade) that you understand this and believe it...thats all God asks u to do lol..Jesus says without Him u cudnt get into Heaven because the cost is so great, so He said, believe in me and i will pay your way into Heaven

Obviously, you are not old enough to be a parent, or have been unable to find someone willing to breed with you. IF you ever get children, you will find that, when you love them, you WANT to PROTECT them from anything which might bring them harm. Since God is the ULTIMATE, loving parent, don't you think He would have wanted to keep Adam and Eve from eating something which would bring them harm? If you love your children, there are consequences to misconduct. Just be glad God loves enough that He sent Jesus to atone for A&E's mess. Only satan wants mankind to suffer. YBIC

Not really sure what you are asking, but I do agree with you that God created us and each characteristic/desire/feeling we own. Therefore, we are indeed punished for simply, naturally being ourselves. Can you add more to your thoughts though to make them a little more clearer? or you can IM if you'd like to discuss further.
