My son is a five year old kindergartener. At home he shows all sorts of negative behaviour when it comes to doing homework(coloring and such). Now personally my son is not a fan of arts and crafts of any kind. So usually I just blow off the attitude and get him to do what needs to be done. When my husband and I try talk to him about school (what's he doing in class, what kind of special did he have today, was there music class) he goes and hides in a corner and refuses to talk. I am at the school most days and am familiar with his teacher. I know what's going on in the school. What I don't get is his refusal to talk about it. Today was the first time he showed this kind of behaviour in class in front of his teacher by taking an hour to write and copy the letter O six times. My husband is concerned that our son is dispalying some asperger tendicies (which our older son has). I think our younger son is playing up the more negative trates the older child displays. Should we be concerned?

My older son goes to school.. He started out in a regular school but last year was his first year at a school through the county that teaches autistic students only. He is in school from 8 am till 3 pm. My younger son is in a charter school and only goes half days until he starts first grade.

My six year old is also in kindergarten, and he has Asperger's. He also refuses to discuss school. I have to get copies of the daily schedule so that I know what he did, and I can ask specific questions ("What did you do in the computer lab today?"). He does not like to write (he has trouble holding his pencil correctly), and he also refuses to work at times. If I were you, I would try focusing on his good work for a few more weeks (I'm sure you already do) and see if this continues. Some children do go through phases like this, but it could also be an indicator of Asperger's. It could also be that he sees his older brother getting more attention when he shows these behaviors. Keep trying. I know it is hard to discipline a child that may or may not be displaying Asperger tendencies because you don't know if he can help the behavior. Trust your gut instinct. Good luck.

Is the work too simple for him? If he is ahead of the class, the tedious boredom of copying a letter over and over may be something he is resisting.

Did the teacher impose any consequence on his behavior? (Loss of recess?)

If he is resistent to homework, I'd suggest putting a time limit on it. DO NOT let him have all night to do it. Give him 30 mins (probably 3x what he should need for KG homework) and then take the work away from him. If it is not done, he faces the consequences at school.

Make sure he knows that you and the teacher are on the same side. Let him see that the two of you communicate through direct contact, email, phone, etc. and that he's not going to "pull one over" on anybody reguarding finishing his work.

If he hides when you question him about school, do you think there could be something going on at school that bothers him? Is he resistent to going or is he happy to go each day?

Asperger - form of autism - Is rejection, rebellion or anger in the family tree of the father or mother? Divorce is a form of rejection.
Incarcerated is a form of anger, rage, bitterness, resentment or rebellion proof meaning any family member placed in jail.

Medical research indicates an imbalance in a particular neurotransmitter secretion is implicated.

There is a book "A More Excellent Way" and a group of people doing studies on root causes of diseases. Their success rate in cures is great. Medical doctors are being trained by them. The Bible tells us a curse without a cause does not come. I know most people think people like this are crazy but if the Lord will cure your child then I will always be glad that I told you about them.

I would talk to your doctor about it, especially if there is already asperger in the family. But my 5 year old son, hardly talks of school and hates doing certain things, but when he has a teacher he likes, he does fine. So maybe an age thing too.

You need to talk to some experts in this field if you want some real answers. Maybe take him to see a Dr, have an evaluation...the only thing i don't suggest is letting these doctors talk you into shoving pills down his throat right off the bat. That should be the absolute last resort.

Does your older child go to school? If not maybe this child figures he could stay home too if he were just "sick" like his brother. Hes not stupid tho' its pretty smart to use the brothers actions to get what he wants.

You need to teach your son that he and his brother are different and have different needs, by not confronting that issue. your teaching your son that he can blame his behavior on other people. 5 yr olds are smart and know what they're doing.

spend more time with him. Should not just rely on the Kindergarten. My wife want to work but I prefer she spend more time to teach our own children.
