I see a lot of arguments against legalizing gay marriage, against teaching evolution in schools, and in favor of shortening pi to '3' because it will confuse children.

Since you think I'm making it up, I'll quote a poster from a few minutes ago in one of my gay marriage threads:

"I don't want my grandchildren to grow up in a society thinking this is proper. Isn't life confusing enough?"

My question is: Do you Christians think children are stupid? I've never found a child who didn't understand gay marriage once it was explained. Also, I thought Jesus told you the only way to get into heaven was to have faith like a child? Wouldn't that mean that children are smarter than adults? In that case, wouldn't it mean that it's better to teach evolution and gay marriage and pi to kids WHILE they're kids, before they become stupid adults?

I'm all confused.

In 1897 the Indiana House of Representatives unanimously passed a measure redefining the area of a circle and the value of pi.

Apparently, the "Bible very clearly says in I Kings 7:23 that the alter font of Solomon's Temple was ten cubits across and thirty cubits in diameter, and that it was round in compass." So they decided that the Bible "says" that pi is 3 since the ratio of thirty to ten is three.

Chico, I've seen a LOT of people say that - I specifically said so. I only quoted one person because Y!A gives me a limited number of characters to work with. I thought that was common knowledge.

I most certaintly do not think children are stupid. As for the faith of a child, that simply means to have faith as a child does in their father. It also says to be innocent in the ways of evil. That's what Jesus meant about having the faith of a child.
The first commandment is to love the Lord your God w/ all you heart, soul, and MIND. It also says that when i was a child i thought like a child, but when i became a man i put away childish things. Children don't know enough, note i'm not saying they're stupid just inexperienced, to make decisions like creationism vs evolution for themselves. Thus parents want to teach their children what they believe and understand to help them see the situation from the view they believe. The parents may not always be right, but you must admit that that is one sign of a good parent.
Sides, in our culture they are going to deal w/ these issues w/o it being taught in schools.

That pi thing, it's stupid. That has nothing to do w/ morals or religion. Why is it listed w/ these other 2?

Evolution- There is absolutely no proof for macro evolution, only hyporthesis'. And yet they teach it in schools. It is just another faith. Why should this faith be taught in schools when others aren't allowed?

Gay Marriage- Personally, I think they should allow gay marriage. I don't think they should teach kids it's a good thing, becuase it's not.

Okay let's start with the pi thing if the most recent mention is from 1897 I think we have to throw that one out.

As to the rest as a Christian I believe that my child should be taught any number of things in school, from tolerance to evolution, I will handle teaching him to be able to discern the difference between what is Biblical or not.

I don’t think my son is stupid quite the opposite he and most of his generation (he is 15) are smarter then we give them credit for. I think one of the mistakes made on a forum like this is that non-Christians lump all Christians together as if any one of us speaks for all of us and the Christians tend to do the same with the non-Christians.

As to gay marriage. I think it could be a slippery slope. Maybe. I also agree that it is against Christian teaching. But one of the things Christians are tending to do with Gay marriage is confuse law and Christian teaching. If the United States wants to pass a Gay marriage law, that is anti-Christian, then it is up to God to judge the nation not us Christians. As long as the Federal Government does not come into my Church and tell my Pastor that he has to perform Gay Marriages then it is up to the government what it wants to do.

It is similar to abortion in that matter. The government passed what is clearly an anti-Christian law (I am not saying what is right or wrong here just that it is not Christian) so that is on them. It is not right for the Government to force Christian doctors to perform abortions.

No, I am a Christian and have 2 children of my own. We have a normal family and we do not think we are better than anyone else. Somewhere along the lines certain people began speaking for a whole group or a religion when noone polled everyone else. I go by the Bible when teaching my children Biblical truths and everyone interprets the Bible differently.

I don't think my children are stupid. Child like faith is suggesting the innocence in a child. A child doesn't hesitate to unconditionally love and believe. This is what he means. Alot of adults are tainted from life and carry uncecessary baggage and hesitations because of what life has dealt them...Jesus is suggesting that all of that become removed.

I have no problem teaching my child about evolution or gay marriage but suggesting that they may become stupid if I don't tell them this is kind of silly. As mothers and fathers we want to protect our children from the harsh realities and the sickness of the world..that is just natural...

It's questions like these. Seriously have you no more important question you could have asked. Oops I did it again. seriously it goes both ways. When you hear constant somments and foolish questions, it is all to easy to start responding with the same lack of sincerity as those who are making redic generalizations about peoples intelligence... there are some that ask and respond decently but I gotta be honest it's easy for them to get lost in the shuffle.

It is written that for a woman to lie down under a horse is confusion, that Gay sex is confusion, etc. So, yes it is confusing for children and anyone else who can tell that a man and woman are to marry, have kids, etc.

Any type of sexual iniquity (addiction) shouldn't be taught as acceptable to our children. If two guys want to hold hands in front of your children, it should be the parents job to explain it to children. I think that is what the school teachers should send home to the Parents. Homework for the parents on these topics about how to explain it to the children. That is also what should be done about the topic of premarital sex.

Children shouldn't be taught that they are going to have premarital sex and to use contraceptives. If anything is taught, it should be health issues, the period cycle, the reality of puberty and abstinence. A pamphlet could be sent home for the parents to explain other sex issues with their own children.

Also, children are programmed to sexual imorality on TV and even in cartoons already. Depending on who the cartoon artists are.

I don't want schools to teach my grandbabies about sex when they are in grade school. And marriage should be depicted as between a man & woman.

I also call my grandbabies smart. Because they are smart. And they are going to grow up into smart adults.

Also, Children who love Jesus and sit in His lap, are an example of those in the Kingdom of Heaven. They aren't sticking their nose in the air saying, "Your stupid Jesus. I don't believe in you.", etc. They aren't rebelling against God. When one is born again, it is because they have accepted Jesus into their heart, and they love Jesus again and don't purposely rebel against God anymore. And that born again Christian is part of the Kingdom of God.

Also, because of separation of Church & State, I believe that Evolution should be an option alongside Creationism. Because they are both religious views (athiest/theist). Evolution to be a requirement is wrong. Because, too many know that it is a theory and has error in it. We shouldn't teach our children error. But, our children should know about it, so it should be an option for when the parent allows them to take it.

dude those are old people who think like that.
People that have spent 40 years staring at blank wall or a punch press are freaking clinically insane. they don't actually make decisions. Unfortunately sometimes evangelists and snake charmer types group them all together and "lead" them on some retarded cause or another meanwhile banking millions, that's just life.

Anyway - all old people who think gay marraige is an insult to the creator of the universe and simutaneously believe their intellect is superior to that of a 12 year old, please send me a check for 25 dollars and your name. I will put your name in the prayer hat and choose one name every hour. If your name is chosen it gets thumbtacked to the god wheel which my ordained assistant spins every 15 minutes! Act fast!!!!

I'm confused to. You quoted one person and used that to pull all Christians into that posters opinion and way of thinking.....it would be like me saying if you are atheist then you must act like so and so.....

My statement is for all on here.....read without comment for a while and you can see the prejudice that comes out in how people respond....it was not intended just for you and yes I do understand the point you were trying to make...I apologize.....but I do not believe in grouping people as each individual as their own views and opinions......my goal is maybe impossible and naive, but to raise the level of what goes on in here to a level that actually goes beyond the name calling and biased prejudice to a level where honest healthy discussion can occur....

Children are smarter than we give them credit for, and can see through the things we say and do. But they also have a much higher awareness of evil than most adults have also, and I am sure can see the evils of homosexuality. It is not because of the intelligence of children that God say we need to become like them, but because of their faith, as you quoted in your statement. Children are not as much confused as we think, but are sensitive and hurt easily and can be scarred by the things we teach them through our actions and words. God said "train up a child in the way he should go..." The same God that said that teaches creation and moral values.

Wouldn't that mean that children are smarter than adults?

Not nececaraly could it be they are easier to impress with our will?
However they are far from stupid in fact a child can learn easier then an adult who has been set in our ways ther eminds are open this is why we have to be carefull to teach them love and not hate!
