That sounds like a good breed to go by. All in all it really depends on you and your lifestyle.

The site does suggest miniature pinscher, which is tricky because they're are great (small) but they bark. I feel sorry for my neighbors (although they haven't complained to me or my landlord yet) but she barks out the window (she recently learned that if you get on my char top you can sit and look @ the window). She's really good though.

Good Luck.

Really, it depends on you. Are you willing to take a dog out for exercise daily? If so, any dog could work. Surprisingly, some of the larger breeds, like Great Danes and Greyhounds, are great for apartments as they don't necessarily require the amount of exercise as some of the smaller ones, and they tend to be somewhat quieter. The smaller terrier breeds tend to be very energetic and quite yippy, which can be irritating for neighbors. Keep in mind also the potty situation. If you live on the ground floor with outdoor access, it's no problem. But if you live on the top floor and it takes five minutes to get outside, it can be a bit of a trick! Larger dogs tend to have larger bladders and can hold it longer, but smaller dogs could be paper trained.

Really, any dog you fall in love with *could* work if you are willing to put the time and energy into exercising and training it.

Terrier man has a lot of interesting theories about terriers and mostly have to do with how the dogs are used today. As they are used today in the US, no they are probably wouldn't get the terrier designation if newly recognized, but many of the dogs with terrier in their name are now mostly companions except in certain areas of the country. In the US, Schnauzers are considered a terrier in the UK they are not. This opens up the questions as to what dogs are today, should they be bred solely to do what they orig. were bred to do or can they be companions only etc....

I have a Boston terrier that is a few months old & he hardly barks at all..I have had a few dogs while living in an apt over the years but this one is soo quiet.. I think it has alote to do with the temperment of the dog. We r actually surprised at how intelligent he is ....from the minute we picked him up from the breeder he has been very cuddley & quiet... Good luck!!

If that's the breed you like, it's a good choice. All dogs need to go for regular walks and love socializing with other dogs at dog parks. I have three medium- large dogs in an apt. But they get out regularly to romp and to run with the pack at urban dog parks.

Some small breed dogs can be extremely hyper and noisy. I had a whippet (medium greyhound), and she was perfect for apt living. She rarely barked and was a couch potato. (Adopting a greyhound is a good option too) They get their exercise in daily walks and the occasional "run."
Training a pup in an apt sux. (Pet stains & whining/barking) Try a shelter adult dog who is house trained.
Good luck in your search!

Any little dog can be kind of yappy. Will your neighbors be ok with it? Sometimes an older, calmer dog from the pound is the best choice.

Small or lap dogs are insecure and will bark a lot but if you have to have a small dog consider have a Brittany spaniel! They don't bark nearly as much!
