Crate traing is the very best method for housetraining dogs. Here's a great page for you:

The book Before and After Getting Your Puppy by Ian Dunbar is an absolute must for any puppy owner! It has easy to follow tips on housetraining, chewing, socialization, etc.

I hope by "a few weeks old" you don't mean just three or four weeks. Pups should stay with their mom and littermates until at least eight weeks old. They learn a great deal about communication, biting, play, and just being a dog between five and eight weeks. Not staying together until eight weeks causes many problems that are extremely difficult to fix.

House training a dog consist of three main things: firm, a schedule (mostly your scedule), and patience. Like many of the above post says.

Crate training is the most popular method. I tried it and it wasn't working for us both (my dog and I). However people fail to realize that training takes up to 6 months, and even then a dog isn't fully house trained unless they go 8 weeks without an accident in the house. That's where the patience comes in.

Your dog will get use to a schedule and if you mess with the schedule your dog will get confused. So you have to keep a constant schedule so that your dog will learn quickly and efficently.

You have to be firm with house training. You can't just let it slide or just ignore it. You have to be firm and stick by the house training process.

As for training your dog. I think if you want you can look into training courses. Or you can train your dog yourself by a video or book. Since I think socialization is important for dogs I enrolled her in a training course. There are many places that offer training courses (Petsmart, Petco); however the best place to find the courses are to talk to your vet and your local shelter/rescue.

I agree with LoveMyLab. Not only crate training but consistency and patience is very important. I used a puppy pad in house breaking. Make sure you place him/her on the pad when they first get up and a few minutes after they eat and drink. Good luck

When you say "a few weeks" old, how old exactly? Most areas have laws stating puppies cannot be sold under six weeks, and the general consensus is that pups should be with their mothers until at least eight weeks.

We tend to think of dog training as a series of steps for teaching particular behaviors. To teach a dog to stay in a particular position, you reward her as she remains in place for gradually longer times, at gradually greater distances, with gradually increasing degrees of distraction. Now, this is fine, training does involve teaching dogs specific behaviors with a step-by-step approach. This week, though, I’m going to discuss three mental habits that will not only enable you train more effectively but also make life pleasant for both you and your dog.

I surely have on no account considered a dogs like that for the period of my existence! He appears like a hyena! From what you stated... i think of that's a dogs and a wolf or in keeping with threat a hyena combination. i'm not sure how which would be with your daughter. to coach it... i might first purely attempt to maintain it around for awhile till it is not as skittish because it is now... it may well be too confusing to coach a dogs it relatively is scared. wish this facilitates!!! good success!

This is the training my breeder recommended (link below) for my Chow. Use crate training...its amazingly quick since it works with the dogs natural instinct not to soil where it sleeps.

Good luck and congrats!
