Yes and no. Whenever their tightened there will be discomfort. I wasn't able to eat anything the first day . You definently don't want to get hit in the mouth either, your gauranteed to bust your lip in several places.

Braces hurt pretty badly for the first week you get them on. Take Tylenol/Ibuprofen, and use your wax. Eat mostly liquified foods. After that, they rarely hurt. They might when you get your wires tightened, but if you take a painkiller before, you should be fine. My braces never hurt after the first week. During braces, you can eat whatever you want, but it's really hard to chew gum or caramel or things like that. The orthodontist will give you a list of things you can't eat, so you don't need to worry, but if you like carrots or apples, cut them up first, it's a lot easier. You should probably avoid popcorn too, but if you don't mind cleaning your braces out a lot, you can normally get away with that. As to the colors... if you don't want people to notice them, pick silver. If you do, pick your favorite colors, your school colors, or something like that. My friends always got rainbows, but I don't think an 11 year old guy would be too into that. :]] Good luck!

Hi :-) My son is 11 and had his braces put on 6 months ago. He actually said it didn't hurt him at all. The only thing you may experience is a little pressure when they are wiring the braces, and you might be a little tender for a few days, but other than that, you won't have any problems I'm sure. I'm not a dentist, but my son just went through it. Good luck! He was eating solids that same day.

I have braces and the answer is, spacers hurt the worst out of the WHOLE experience. Spacers are the absolute worst. As far as braces go, it depends on how crooked your teeth are. If you have really crooked teeth then they will hurt for the first couple days but it won't be unbarable. Just take like a Tylenol and it will definately help! They aren't that bad, just kind of annoying. :)

i had braces when i was a kid and i remember the spacers were the soreest thing to get. for the first few days they cut my gums and i couldnt eat properly and i was miserable. but that all kind of went away and i became used to them. and nothing as bad as that was done again.

complain about the pain alot and your parents might let you get drunk to ease the pain though ha ha ha

Occasionally they will hurt (when they get tightened) but it's worth it! Plus, when your teeth are sore, your parents will let you eat ice cream for dinner since it will hurt to chew food.

They only make you feel uncomfortable after each tightening. 1st 3 days, not really, but your mouth will become sore once things start to shift.
