I notice that I recently developed some deep lines or ridges that run down my fingernails, is this some type of defiency?

Yes this is an issue; what it is should be determined by your doctor. Many heavy metal toxicity and mineral deficiencies are signaled through deformities in the nail bed. You may have also injured the nail bed but if it is present throughout your hands or in places you believe have not been injured you should see your doctor.

This is sort of like an early warning system. In some cases the abnormalities are caught early and at that stage are not dangerous but if they remain could become serious. You probably just need extra vitamins and minerals but still check it out.

I have heard that this can be caused by a few things.
Aging, as we get older their is a tendency for ridges to appear on our nails. Have you changed your diet lately? This can also be related. Do you moisturize your nails on a regular basis? Lack of moisture maybe.
