No. It cannot be Italian. Unless of course the original name was altered, as often happened when immigrants came through Ellis Island. Could the original name be Imoiera?

All I know is "y" isn't considered an Italian letter.

i AM ITALIAN AND I WAS TOLD BY MY GRANDFATHER THAT IF IT ENDS IN A VOWEL IT IS EITHER SPANISH OR ITALIAN. TO ME IT LOOKS SPANISH NOT ITALIAN.BUT YEAAHHH.
