I have a male friend who lies aaaaaaalllll the time, about the dumbest things. Why would someone feel the need to lie all the time? Heres some examples of the lies he's told:

He said he has 100,000 in the bank, even though he's living in a hotel room right now.. (he says he's saving that money for his pro wrestling career)
He said he spent 70,000 dollars on a custom chain with a Jesus pendant, made of all jewels.
He said he had dinner in the white house, with president Bush.
He said his sister is dating the lead singer of my chemical romance.
He told me once he had 2 kids..then his (now ex) girlfriend got pregnant and had a baby(this part is true). Suddenly he forgot that he said he had 2 other kids and keeps talking about how weird it is to be a parent.
Once the number of people he slept with was 26, then it was 5, then it changed again..
the list goes on, and on, and on...

He also pretends to be drunk or high when im on the phone with him.
He lies about things that arent important AT ALL, and wouldnt impress anyone (Just so its clear..I know that some of his lies are meant to "impress" people, but some of them are just for the sake of lying.

He is disturbed. I used to have a friend like this also, and he was fun to be around as long as you took everything that came out of his mouth with a grain of salt. Many people disliked him because of this, and confronted with it he would make up even more lies to explain it. I believe he (and probably your friend too) is a pathalogical liar. Why people do this, I do not know... but I think it is a defense mechanism or a compulsion that they can't help.

As far as why, I think it differs from person to person but ends up being one of the things I listed above... Crazy people.. haha... but they can be fun!

He sounds like a pathological liar... it really is a mental defect that manifests in such weirdness as you describe. I know one, and the problem is that THEY believe the crap they're telling you! Every word of it. It's what makes them believable so much of the time until you get to know that the stories are all bunk. Suggest he talk to a counselor if he even recognizes he has a problem, and if he doesn't (which is more likely the case) try to understand that it IS a glitch, and if you like him enough, ignore it. Don't patronize it by agreeing if you know it's an outright lie, but don't say anything at all. It's about all you personally can do!

Pathological lyer

It's a mental chemical embalance, He should really get phyciatric help, if it progresses he could get into a lot of trouble.

NO NO NO

These ppl are wron, it's not sctzophrenia, or phycoticness.
They wanna see that I will show you some sh*t that would make your toes curl. When he breaks into your house to destroy it, leave swasticas on the wall, with death notes, and satanic writings,
And then takes EVERYSINGLE item sand piles them at the bottom of the stairs throws dirt on it and then water, throws your high oil content black hair dye all over white walls.

ADN THEN points a gun at your family photo

THATS PSYCO SCITZOPHRENIA.

not compulsive lyer. He is a pathological/compulsive lyer. End of story, need medical attention.

But No he is not a bad person, just needs help.

I've seen this several times. One possibility- one very strong possibility- is that your male friend has mental disorders, such as schizophrenia. Only a doctor could actually diagnose and treat that.

Another possibility is that he wants attention, and doesn't care how he gets it. In that case, a boot to the britches is in order.

In any case, you don't want your 'male friend' where he can sponge off of you. Because he will, if you let him.

Good luck.

He's probably not a bad person but he is insecure and wants attention.
