My cat has a wound since summer. Last week I noticed that there is a lump there, but no infection. There is a little bit of dried blood on her head, small cut. Would anybody have an idea what it could be? I brought her to the vet, but he is not sure what she has and told me to come back in 2 months if she doesn't get better.

Did your vet take a fine-needle aspirate? That is when they suck out a few of the cells and look under a microscope to see what it could be. Because I cannot see your cat, I can't take a guess but some types of cancer do this.

If your vet did do this, and it was not a cancer, did your vet prescribe antibiotics?

If the answer to antibiotics is yes, was your cat's blood taken to test it for autoimmune diseases? This could prevent the wound from healing.

There is no reason why a vet cannot diagnose a wound or lesion. If your vet is not able to diagnose, take your cat to another vet ASAP.

I am a veterinary technician. I would never allow a wound to go unhealed on my cat for an extended period of time.

It sounds like the wound has healed over and formed a cyst. Keep an eye on it for any change. If it gets any bigger, go back to the vet and see if they can drain it or remove it.

attempt a concentrated antibiotic ointment for some days. It helps with the itching. An appointment to be certain a time-honored practitioner can be a good idea besides, because having something like that loaf round for per week is not any exciting, and they could be able to provide you a prescription for something that'll assist in making it flow away without getting any worse.

It sounds like a cat bite abcess. These are extremely toxic as the bacteria is very aggressive. Do not try to pop it. If your cat starts acting sick - not eating, has a temperature, take it to the Vet asap!

I'm with Gizmo, mostly: The wound has already been there several months, and that's way too long.

It could be a cyst, it could be cancer or diabetes. Find out what it is and get it taken care of.

Good luck!

Have you had your furry friend tested for Feline Leukemia? If not I would do so. I had a kitty that had a wound that would not heal on his face and it turned out to be from the Feline Leukemia.
