I've checked Sainsburys and Tescos but all i can find is cornflour and Mcdougalls Instant Thickening Granules. The problem is that Arrowroot keeps the soups clear whereas the other thickeners make the soups cloudy. Any ideas???

thank you missree! I just looked online at sainsburys and some prat has input it as "super cook arrow root" instead of "supercook arrowroot" . The rest of the range can be found by typing "supercook". Think someone had a bad day!!

Oh, and Tescos listed it as "Supercook Ground Arrowroot125g" with no spaces between the product and the weight - no wonder i couldn't find it under "arrowroot" !!

i work for sainsbury's and i know they definitely do stock it, have a look at their home baking section the one we sell in the store i work in is made by Supercook and comes in the same packaging as their 100s and 1000s sweets.

The main disadvantage of arrowroot starch is that it's much harder to find than cornstarch. You can mail order it from Penzeys Spices, a company that I absolutely love. These are people that really care about spices. If you love to cook, definitely check them out. (Note that I have no business relationship with Penzeys other than "satisfied customer".)

If you prefer, or if you're out of arrowroot, you can substitute cornstarch for arrowroot starch one to one in any recipe, but if you do this you need to be careful not to simmer your sauce too long, or it will go all watery.

everybody has mentioned corn starch but over here in britain we call it cornflour tescos should stock it.......mix with water till the consistancy of single cream pour into soup sauce etc till the desired thickness is met.....cornflour is very good in baking to it will thicken your soup and remain clear

Add a tablespoon of cornstarch to a cup of water and mix it thoroughly. Add to soup slowly while stirring. I call it cornstarch water. Cornstarch water thickens without adding color.
