Do you know what caused the diarreah? Was it something he ate, did you switch his foods, etc? If so, try a teaspoon of 100% pure canned pumpkin. Make sure it's 100% pumpkin, NOT the pie filling (the pie filling has sugar and other additives).
Pumpkin is great for bringing stools to normal consistency and works for diarreah and constipation.
However, if you DON'T know what caused it, consider a vet trip. He could have worms or another problem that must be treated professionally.

I find pure pumpkin in a can works better. I would need feed the dog for 24 hours and then give him a tbsp of pumpkin with rice.

Call your vet asap. It could be nothing or it could be parvovirus. Young puppies are susceptible to parvovirus, especially those who are rescued puppies or who have been taken from their mother too soon. Watch his eating habits over the next 24 hrs and make him drink lots of water. It is important to call your vet though as soon as possible.

I don't know about rice water, but my dog often gets a bit sick, and I just give her lamb and rice canned food for a few days and she gets better.

I would take the puppy to the vet. Depending on the age and weight, it could become dehydrated quickly. Always better to be safe than sorry

I would feed him the actual rice. You can also give canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling, but plain canned pumpkin).
