Is there a website or something? When you look online at the taxes a person paid on their home in the previous year, are school taxes included in that? I am looking at a home to buy and want to be sure I don't overlook a big expense like taxes.

There isn't one big web site for all the various city, county and other local taxes for the whole country.

If you let us know where you are looking, maybe someone knows a web site for that location. Otherwise, I would suggest that you do a bit of research on Google.

Best wishes.

You can get ahold of the assessor's report for the parcel. The property tax bill should be itemized into different particulars, including usually school support and school debt (bonds). Remember that when you buy a home, the controller's office will change the taxable value on your home, so your taxes will change compared to previous years such that original owners pay taxes based on an appreciated schedule beginning at the price they paid which may be MUCH lower than the price you pay. Your taxes will be assessed first at the price you purchase the home at, appreciated annually thereafter from that original base.

Ask your real estate agent or the seller of the house. They will probably give you one number for property taxes which includes school tax, water tax, etc.
