Doea anyone know if you've had the virus, can you contract it again? I know a mom who's had it, but now her kids are getting it. Can she get it again?

There are many different strains of norovirus, which makes it difficult for a person’s body to develop long-lasting immunity. Therefore, norovirus illness can recur throughout a person’s lifetime. In addition, because of differences in genetic factors, some people are more likely to become infected and develop more severe illness than others.

My understanding is that there are several different strains of it, and though you may develop immunity to a particular type of norovirus after contracting it, that same immunity will not protect you from getting other, different strains.

In the situation you described, where it is a mom and her children, they probably all have the same strain so now that the mother is well, the chances of her contracting it back from her kids are very, very low.

Hope this helps.
