She may be "blowing her coat"... labs do it about twice a year when they shed their undercoat.

Another possibility is the food you are feeding her... you may not have changed brands, but the formula may have been changed.

Labs have lots of hair as we all know take her to the groomer and have her under coat brushed and blown out. You can do the under coat brushing your self by going to the pet store and ask them for an under coat rake or brush, if you chose to do it your self DO NOT brush too hard just enough to remove most of the under coat. When you get to her back side meaning her butt go from the butt outward NOT down, also when you do the hind legs where there flap of skin is right after there ribs end, hold that with your hand flat and that part should be AT your fingers and go lightly in a down ward motion away from the leg. If your dog can not stand go ahead and let her lie down then just try to flip her over to do the other side. if you have any more questions IM me and I'll try to help you out as much as possible. P.S. If it was mange there would be bald spots

Your dog is losing fur because the seasons change. Dogs have the tendancy to shed also to get rid of the old hair. Sometimes it depends one what they are laying on. Try brushing your dog more often. That may help.

My dogs haired thinned out alot over the summer and when I took her to the vet to get nails clipped the vet noticed and started running test for cushings disease. She has since been diagnosed with the disease and has started treatments. It normally happens in older dogs (mine is 12yo), but has been known to happen in dogs as young as 5 and 6. Just a thought.

Labs can have periods of heavy shedding, but if you think it is abnormal - talk to your vet.

I raise and train labs for blind people, I can say that some dogs shed more than others. In the absence of rashes and obvious itching - your dog may actually be okay. If she doesn't act any different it could be normal.

Check to make sure it is fur and not your dog shedding. This time of year dogs tend to shed. My bullmastiff was shedding a lot last week.

Dogs tend to loose hair when they have been under a lot of stress - has your dog been under a lot of stress lately.

If you are stumped - call your vet.

dogs shed at different rates during the year. if she is not getting bald spots this is probably normal hair loss. If bald spots are showing up the a vet visit is due

I would contact the vet because the first thing they look at is the food and if that is not the cause then I think it would be genetics.

take her to the vet. she's prime age and breed for a thyroid problem. it could be many things but you need a vetrinary dr. to look and examine her to tell you what could be the problem. good luck.
