The differential diagnosis for blood in the stool is pretty big, so it can be any number of things. But here are some things that can narrow it down for you. If it is just bright red blood that sits on the surface of the stool or stains the toilet bowl water, it is likely from a hemorrhoid or anal fissure. If you're older, cancer can't be ruled out as low-lying rectal cancers can do the same...usually you would have associated symptoms of narrowed, pencil-thin stools with that. If your stool itself is black and tarry with blood in it, it is likely a higher source in your GI tract, such as an ulcer or bleeding gastritits. There are infectious causes for bloody diarrhea such as salmonella or shigella infections. You would likely have a fever and feel like **** if that's going on. There are also autoimmune causes such as ulcerative colitis or crohn's colitis which can cause it too. Anal trauma can cause it if you've been putting things up your bum or having anal sex. If that's the case, give it some time to heal cowboy.
Hope this helps.

If you have blood in your stool, you must go to the doctor. It is not normal and is a very bad sign.

That is NOT normal to have blood in your stool each time you have a bowel movement. If this is happening more than once a week-be alarmed. Are you sure that it is blood and not something that you ate like beets or some other reddish color foods? If you are sure it is blood you need to go see a doctor asap!
PLEASE HURRY!

Actually you ALWAYS have blood (bilirubin) in your stool...it is what makes it brown. However bleeding during bowel movements is not normal and can be an indicator of several conditions...some serious like cancer, some less serious like hemorrhoids.

NOT NORMAL! If you are sure it is blood, you NEED to see a doctor right away!!! Could be something wrong internally, this would be considered emergency....
