Buy them a package of Poise and take them to their house.
Tell them, that you just heard about them and thought they might like to try them.
You need to be honest. There might be some senility going on here so I'd give it a shot.
If you feel they need intervention perhaps you can get hold of their doctor and speak with him or her.
They also might need a cleaning lady once a week if they are too feeble or old to do it themselves.
It would be a nice gesture on your part to take them out one day and have the house cleaned professionally.

I went through this with my elderly father recently. I just told him, with as much compassion as I could, that it had been called to my attention that he was having an incontinence problem and that he would have to start wearing Depends (adult diapers).

He was not happy with this, but I explained to him that the problem was pretty bad and that nobody had to know that he was wearing the Depends. I bought him a couple of packages and some plastic trash bags for him to put the used ones in.

It took some reminders from time to time, but he did wear them and things got a lot better. He still doesn't like the idea but he finally understood that he couldn't just pretend the incontinence didn't exist.

I've also worked with his doctor to try to find a prescription that helps, and we finally found one that seems to be working.

You need to try to help your grandparents with the medical aspect of this problem. Don't count on them talking to the doctor about it, or the doctor helping them on his own. If you know who their doctor is, call his office and tell him about the problem. It's possible the incontinence might be a sign of something more serious.

With my dad, what we found out was that he had heart problems that made him terribly, terribly tired and made it hard for him to get up without getting dizzy and tired after walking just a few steps. Because of this, he was letting his bladder get fuller before he'd try to get up and go use the bathroom, and since he had a leaky bladder anyway it made the leakage problem get worse. When the doctors found out about the heart trouble, they started medicating that and he started to feel better. I don't think it's a coincidence that once his heart condition was stabilized, his incontinence problems started getting better.

Good luck to you with your grandparents.

What a candy grandchild. I might endorse making quick visits for the reason that he generally tires effortless along with his situation and the medications he's without doubt taking. The scientific international is a lot more complex at present than it was. My father had bladder melanoma and he has recovered good. You could wish to invite your grandfather if there may be something you would do for him or get him, corresponding to magazines, books from the library, or perhaps a hug.

Bladder problems are something that is very embarrassing to talk about even to the doctor for older people. It could also be a medical condition going on. You could have the furniture cleaned for them as a gift. The odors are most likely in the furniture or carpets if they have carpet, it may also be in the mattress. Suggest they see a doctor and you or someone they trust could go with them and make sure you/they mention to their doctor this condition. Old age does not mean we should have bladder problems. Please have them examined by a doctor.
