Stress, lack of sleep, poor diet, and depression can all contribute to the length of a cold, which is a virus. Basically anything that hurts your immune system will make it last longer. Certain medications will also suppress the immune system, such as Elidel excema cream.
However, the 'cold', which is a virus, will generally not last more than a few weeks max. If the symptoms last longer than that, it is very likely that you have a bacterial infection, and must get antibiotic treatment to make it go away.
Another possibility is 'chronic fatigue syndrome', which is caused by a virus that 'lives' in you DNA code, and can produce general cold-like symtoms that may last long, and are actiovated by stress. unfortunately, there is nothing that medicine can do for this illness.
My advice would be to go to the Dr and get on antibiotics if it is more than a few weeks that you have been suffering, and get 8-10 hours of sleep per night, take multivitamins with zinc supplement, and try not to get too stressed out about things. You should get better if you follow these guidelines.Another sugestion is Zicam nasal spray, use every 4 hours or so.
Good luck, and get well!
