I have a 7 year old and 1 year old fixed male cats, who are best buddies. I want to get another one, but I'm not sure if I should get another male or a female. I know they'll accept whoever I bring home, but was just wondering if the sex made a difference.

I am a cat lover from way back and I don't really think its a matter of male or female cat because you don't chose the cat it chooses you , sometimes its best to get a younger cat as the older one can relate to it better as they want to take care of it and its not a threat.what I do is look at a lot of different cats and the one that kinda clings to me is the one I choose . or the one who tries really hard to get my attention is the one I get , never falls I've 3 very spoiled beautiful black cats now 2 females and1 male all very happy.good luck.

Usually I'd say get the opposite sex, especially when talking about male cats. But in this case I am leaning more towards saying that it really doesn't matter. Typical male cats will try to establish dominance and territory - but it sounds like your two males have not done that. This is the ONLY thing I would be careful of is not to bring a male cat in that might try to "take control" of the household and push around your males already there.

Males are more rambunctious. Females go into heat VERY LOUDLY. They also seem to be more of an attention lover. But if you get a female cat and don't get it fixed for a bit, by 6 months you'll want to shove something through your ears or slam your head into a wall. I've had female cats before and you very quickly learn when it's time to get the spayed. They spend the night SCREAMING.

I'm particial to male animals. I like their energy. Females are sweet and all but something about them has always annoyed me. But that's just me!

Either would be fine since they are both neutered. Animals are not like humans, they don't have sex for pleasure, they do it purely for the point of procreation. Sex actually hurts the female cat which is why she screams so no way would it be enjoyable. My point to that is, it makes no sense that males would "fight" over the female if you got one. Males tend to be more affectionate than females so consider that when making your choice, though some females can be very affectionate. It all depends on the cat. I say just allow yourself to see which cat you like best, which one you are drawn to, and go from there. I wouldn't worry about the sex.

I honestly have a colony of 16 cats. And my own determination are woman cats. they seem purifier than the lads, yet some may be somewhat prissy the position the lads are extremely more effective adorable. basically continuously keep in options each cat has a diverse personality, so perchance you'll get a male and a lady!!! good success!!!

We had 2 adult girl cats and introduced a male kitten into the mix. The girls adore the male cat now, just took a couple of months to adjust. They play fight all the time.

If you're planning on getting a kitten, the sex likely won't matter (as long as you spay/neuter everyone in the house). I know plenty of people who have both sexes of cat living in peace and harmony with each other.... and plenty who do NOT live in peace and harmony! Be careful with introductions, and talk to your vet for some specific ideas on how to SLOWLY bring the new cat into the household. If they start out on the wrong foot, you'll have a ton of work to do to patch things up between them.

Well, if you get a female, the boys will fight over her, and possibly try to hump her. But if you get a male, your other cats may not like it, and they might end up fighting. But I think a male kitten would be best, because your other cats will get use to him.

In very general terms, mixed sex cats get along better than a pair of the same sex. But I don't think gender will be as important as properly introducing them.

only get a male if its really young then there's less of a chance it'll try to take control id side more for a female. females don't fight for territory i have observed my cats the females aren't attacked as much as males and don't cause the fight as much either
