The Developing Human: Clinically Oriented Embryology, 6th ed.
Keith L. Moore, Ph.D. & T.V.N. Persaud, Md., (Philadelphia: W.B. Saunders Company, 1998), 2-18.

"[The Zygote] results from the union of an oocyte and a sperm. A zygote is the beginning of a new human being. Human development begins at fertilization, the process during which a male gamete or sperm ... unites with a female gamete or oocyte ... to form a single cell called a zygote. This highly specialized, totipotent cell marks the beginning of each of us as a unique individual."

What is your question?

There's a little problem with semantics that can't be ignored in your posting.

"A zygote is the BEGINNING of a new human being."

THE beginning of something is not the same as something. The beginning of a relationship is NOT a relationship, just something that could flourish or fizzle. It is not the same as the end result until it has actually become a relationship. Therefore, while a zygote may be the beginning of a new human being, it is not a human being.

Just like a planted acorn that has begun to sprout is the beginning of an oak tree. That does not make it an oak tree.

OK, youre right.....humans are nothing more than a sperm cell and an egg. So, that means every time you jerk off, youre committing mass killings of 2+ million potential humans.....

Like I said earlier - if it doesnt have a spine, it is not self aware and cannot feel pain. Therefore, it is not a live human.
