I am now married and I was wondering how my rings are supposed to go on my hand. Is it wedding band and then engagement ring or engagement ring and then wedding band. I thought the engagement ring goes first then the wedding band because thats the order everything happened in but my mom who is a wedding photographer and sees this stuff all the time says the opposite and so did our officiant. Anyone know for sure?

I can't remember what site I found it on, but when I was helping a friend plan her wedding, I found something that said that the wedding band is supposed to be put on before the engagement ring, "closest to your heart" or something like that. Personally, though, I think it's your choice. I've seen it both ways.

I think most married women i know personally wear their wedding band first (and in come cases, wedding band only, for some reason). I am engaged and intend to wear my wedding band first, then engagement ring. But i guess you don't have to do what everyone else does if you really don't want to. It's ultimately up to you.

I recently got married and had no idea either. I was told by everyone I asked that you can do it how you want but that traditionally you were your wedding band closest to your heart so that would actually go first with your engagement ring on top. Whatever you think looks best though is fine.

Completely up to you.

I wear mine engagement ring then wedding ring. It looks better that way. Some don't even bother with the engagement ring and just go straight to wearing just their wedding band.

It's yo thang, honey. Do what ya wanna do.

I'm a wedding photographer too...I've seen it done all kinds a different ways.

You're supposed to keep your wedding band closest to your heart. A lot of people never take off their bands, but will take off their engagement rings. It just is easier when it on the outside.

For sure, the wedding band goes on first, and the engagement ring goes on overtop to protect the wedding ring.

It's generally wedding ring then engagement ring. (But if you prefer it the other way, no one should be telling you you're "wrong" - do whatever you prefer.) Usually in the ceremony, you don't wear the engagement ring - you have the wedding ring put on a bare finger (I've heard that this is supposed to sybolize entering the marriage pure and unencumbered or something), and then you put the engagement ring on after.

I agree that it does seem counter-intuitive with respect to chronological order, though.

Your mom is right, the wedding ring goes on first then the engagement ring. Look on any of the bridal sites thats what they all say.
