POSSIBLE... yes.

Practicable, NO. The A-10 Warthog doesn't have strong enough landing gear (or the attachments) to to be launched from an aircraft carrier by the steam catapult. The Warthog also wouldn't be able to land again because of the weak landing gear.

They HAVE landed and launched a C-130 on a carrier... I believe that was back in the late 50's to mid 60's. I was also aboard the USS Kitty Hawk when then launched 2 old WWII B-25's to commemorate the Doolittle raid.

To launch an A-10, you'd have to clear the flight deck from ramp to bow, get up a wicked head of steam to push 40-60 knots of air down the flight deck... then roll the A-10 the length of the deck if she's loaded with armaments... just not practicable.

Just for Trivia... the A-10 Warthog has the same engines as the S-3B Viking. The S-3B Viking is the only aircraft on the carrier that CAN be launched while the boat is at anchor !!

I was going to say if Doolittle could launch a squadron of B-25's off a deck, why not an A-10 but I think Robert S knows what he's talking about. Great Answer. Also, isn't the A-10 a rather slow plane in comparison to other carrier based aircraft?

Yes, but not without extensive modifications to the plane. Why bother anyway? the whole purpuse of the A-10 is to detroy tanks and ground support, Helos can do the mission, land and take off from carriers much easier.
