By studying every night. There is no short cut way to success. It takes hard work to be able to succeed in anything you do. So start studying now. If you mean being "smart" generally, then you have you have to develop the habit of reading. Be well informed. Smart people are usually those who can actively contribute to a conversation, You can only do this if you are a wide reader. Start reading on general information, science, latest news, etc. You will be amazed at how people will call you smart, just because you were able to explain what "lipoproteinemia" means. Good luck.

Pick a fairly narrow subject in which you are interested (e.g. history is to broad. Maybe the American Revolution or women's rights or the fall of the Soviet Union), and read ten books about it. You will be pretty well informed about that subject.
Or
Read a good newspaper every day--the NY Times, the Washington Post, Christian Science Monitor, or the Wall Street Journal.
Or
Go to the site Arts and Letters Daily (http://www.aldaily.com/) and read to articles to which they link.
