They're very nice. They're the standard for wine glasses in Napa Valley. They also break VERY easily. I once had to buff a couple hundred of them and was highly nervous. The guy who was helping me warned me about it, and sure enough a couple of the pieces he was buffing snapped right at the stem. He said it happens all the time.

So yeah, they're beautiful, popular, and highly fragile.

Riedel makes a very inexpensive version of their drinkware for Target. You can get four glass set for $35. They have everything from beer glasses to wine to champagne flutes.

I break too many glasses to buy the real version. But love them when I am at wine events in Napa. I was at a wine tasting class at copia and we tried a wine in several different glasses ranging from plastic to riedel fancy stuff and I did notice slight differences.

I really love my Riedel. I don't know that the 100 dollar hand made ones are distinguishable from the 20 dollar machine made ones though (the vinum vs. the sommelier series I believe). I recommend at least a set of the bordeaux and of the chard glasses, then supplement as desired. Very fragile. Never dishwash these.
