That's a good age to have it done. Most vets won't spay or neuter until they have started losing puppy teeth anyway and that happens between 5 and 6 months of age so you're dog is at a good age for it. Thanks for being such a responsible pet owner!

Actually if you are not intending to breed the animl it is always a great idea to have them neutered.
I have heard so many men scrape and moan about getting their male dog neutered (including my own father). As if they are betraying their best friend by getting them “fixed”. When, in all honesty, it’s the kindest thing you can do for your pet. Neutered males are less likely to roam and get lost, or hit by cars (this goes for females as well). They are less likely to show aggression, and bite people or other dogs. And, last, but certainly not least, they are less prone to certain types of cancer. What could be kinder than to help your pet be a sweeter, gentler, and healthier animal?

According to the winnfelinehealth.org there are no complecations from neutering at 9 months. However only a vet can guide you as to the current health of your animal and/or any risks which may be associated with his particular neutering. Average to be neutered is 6 months.

He will be fine---that is NOT too old, or even "older". Good for you for getting him fixed! He should have no problems and recover quickly.
Adult dogs taken into rescue are neutered at older than 1 all the time. Some people will show a dog to his championship (which can take a year or two) and then retire him from showing and neuter him at 2-3 years of age. (Not all show dogs are bred!)
Your vet will examine him to make sure he's okay for surgery.
Good luck!

You can get a dog neutered at any time. It's better late than never. There are very few risks involved with the neutering process. The main risk is the chance of picking up a disease while the operation is taking place, but at nine months old, he should have immunity to diseases if you've gotten him vaccinated. It's true that puppies tend to heal faster than adult dogs, and since your dog is close to being an adult, it may take him a few days before he starts feeling better. So in short, it's perfectly fine to get him neutered at nine months of age.
Good for you! Neutering very often makes a dog a better pet, and it also means you won't be contributing to the huge overpopulation of dogs out there.

That's a very wise decision, good for you! At shelters, dogs are neutered at all ages, from 4 months up to 7 years old or more. The puppies tend to heal faster, of course, but they are fine within a few days no matter what age.
My own younger male was neutered at 9 months because he had an undescended testicle, that we had been hoping would descend on its own. Since that was not to be, we went ahead then. No problems at all. Trying to keep him quiet for a few days was the only problem!

I say go for it! Any time is the right time to neuter a dog. Not only do you decrease the chance of unwanted litters, and help to curb "male" behaviors like roaming and marking territory, but you also GREATLY reduce the chances of certain cancers later in the dog's life. Testicular cancer cannot hit a dog who does not have testicles, and prostate diseases such as cancer, prostatic cysts, and prostatitis have a much higher incidence in UN-neutered dogs. Neutering also reduces the risk of developing perineal hernias (a weakening in the muscle wall of the pelvis that allows a pouch to form, sometimes containing important organs like intestines or bladder!).
So, in short, do it. Now.

No it is not too late nor any additional risks to have it done at 9 months versus say 3 months. You'd only worry about age related complications if the dog was old (like 8-9-10 etc) or infirm. Getting it done the sooner is better though as it reduces males want to mark, and roaming, aggression, retains their puppylike qualities...and with a dog of any age..removal of the sexual reproductive organs helps eliminate/reduce the chance of cancer related to those organs which is one of the most common serious illnesses to strike dogs. Also, getting dogs fixed keep doggies from having unwanted litters.

Neutering at 9 months is not too young. Most shelters and rescues do early spay/neuter before placing pups. Younger dogs bounce back alot quicker from procedures than older dogs do.
