I mean so much has gone both ways, but i have yet to see a real debate on anything. I always hear about debates on a campus 1,000 miles away, but none that i can go to. I'm seriously waiting for a debate on abortion. Modern embryology has shown conception=human life, so why do they still have abortion for all these girls who accidently get pregnant and not for serious medical reason?

There are often abortion debates in my University.
You obviously know little about embryology. Human life is an arbitrary definition, not a scientific term. The prerequisites for life aren't set in stone.

To the extent that "modern embryology" has shown that "conception = human life" then modern cloning research has shown that any body cell = human life.

The idea that an embryo is a human with a soul is relatively new. The bible certainly doesn't agree with that concept. There are many instances where the soul is thought to enter the body with the first breath. Indeed, the Holy Spirit and the Breath of God are often synonymous.

The church didn't agree with the concept for the majority of its existence. Nowhere was it suggested that miscarriages should be buried with full Catholic rites.

The liberal media will have nothing to do with it, that's why. Every debate that I've been to (around 50 or so) is voted on. And every time the debate has been won by the conservative (even the debates at secular schools).

This information is well documented and known by the media, and since they will not promote anything conservative, you will not see anything on t.v.

NOTE: The greatest documentary (and most seen) on Abortion is "The Silent Scream". Yet PBS will not show it? HMMMM promoting what the public wants huh?

She sounds like a complete douche hun, You seem so caring for her and her well being, she doesn't deserve that at all to be honest she sounds like shes taking you for a ride! she's not making you happy, and shes not giving you the love you need. Its not a relationship it just sounds like your chasing her which is almost defiantly what she wants! Telling you that other guys want to get with her when you break up is not a good thing shes just making you jealous because of her own insecurities, So this is what you need to do, Tell her exactly how you feel and if she doesn't like then she knows where the door is! xx

The easy answer is that the vast majority of Americans are theologically unaware, often times because many relgious sects in American are wholly anti-intellectual.

And to the person who wrote, "It's not ethical to foist our vision of ethics on others," your statement really confuses me, assuming you really do believe a fetus is a human life. What if I think murder is ethical? Is it unethical to "foist" your notion of the un-ethical nature of murder on me? If you really think an embryo is a human life, you are presenting a very problematic inconsistency.

Also, embryos may not contribute to society, but neither do many other people. Should we begin cleansing society of those who do not adequatly contribute? The other problem with this "answer" is that most aborted fetuses do have spines, and a heartbeat.

There's no sex, fist-fighting when disagreements happened, there are no voting off the podium issues, and Jack NEVER shows up to demand information before the world blows to hell. So it's not of much interest to the general public.

I'll play though... I'm Buddhist. Why do they still do abortions? Because not everyone shares the same ethics on human life that you and I do and it's not ethical to foist our vision of ethics on others. Also you have the consideration of who takes care of these "girls" (not women huh?) afterward? Are YOU going to foot the child's bill for the rest of her life WITHOUT interfering in the rest of it with your religious doctrines/dogma that the woman might NOT agree with? I don't think you're likely to do so... so think outside the box my friend. A smattering of Buddhist logic on the reality of the world might wake you up and supplement your narrow view.

Could it be that people (here in the USA) may have Jesus in their life, but not first in their life (James 2:19)? The 'debates' I have seen up to now; tend to grow to be attacks on the people, not on the subject matter.
As for abortion; that is a separate subject matter for now.

My sister accidentally got pregnant when she was raped - by a pious religious nutter. Ill be certain to let her know she shouldnt have an abortion at the expense of upsetting your fragile mind...

A lump of cells that doesnt possess a spine cannot be self aware and cannot experience pain. Thus, it is NOT human and it is NOT live.
