I was told that is not common for UK women to make the first move in meeting men. Is this true? Is it up to the men to start chatting up a girl?

Plenty of girls have made the first move on me, which i think is great, that way you know your not wasting your time with someone who's just a tease, if you want to make the first move, just do it, most guy would prefer you to.

Yes, but men are rubbish!
Women tend to use tactful ways to make the men make the first move. So in many situations the women makes the first move, by getting the bloke to make the first move!
I think men, need to make the first move, as men are generally more closed and hard to approach. (major generalisation, but true)
It also can make the woman look cheap or needy if she makes the first move.
I have made the first move, but think it is better if the guy does.

I think that if us women waited for a man to make the first move then no one in the UK would be married, engaged or in a relationship! But on serious note - I think it depends on the woman and on the man himself. :-)

I am Australian living in the Uk and I don't think it's something you can distinguish by culture, as alot of my male friends find that Aussie girls are more likely to approach them here than they are at home.
I like the guy to make the first move, and so do most of my friends who are Aussie, English, Kiwi and a whole lot of other nationalities.

I have made the first move before if I needed to but prefer the man to start the ball rolling myself! don't think men ALWAYS make the first move though, we are in an age of so called equality!
