no he is not. Initially, he was part of the Revolution, but then he had a falling out with some of his fellow revolutionaries, and thus started a counter revolution which led to his assassination.
My great grandparents were mexican and they hated Pancho Villa and the revolutionaries, viewing them as peasant, murderous scum. My great grandparents lost everything as a result of the revolution, witnessed their relatives get executed, and had to flee to the USA. And yes, they were LEGAL immigrants.

One must always remember that movies are stylized reproductions. The movie you watched was probably an American Hollywood production and shouldn't be relied upon for facts.
That being said, Pancho Villa certainly did lead Mexicans into battle and many got killed. We were at war with Mexico, and in war people get killed.

sweety, the movie is one thing real life is another, yes he was a hero to the poor people and he sure was an @ss to the rich people, but just to defend the poor.
Pancho Villa had a real cause for fighting, and he was true to his people not like others that were fighting just to gain power, Pancho Villa fought for the people.
and about getting a lot of people killed, do you know how many inosent americans have died in Irak, a war is a war and people die.
He was a gentleman, and well spoken not like in the movie. if you want to know more about him E mail me at hazydolly@hotmail.com
I have read a lot about him, and for the 4 yrs that I lived in Mexico I did a lot of research about him. I even met one of his daughters.

Yes, he was a hero to Mexicans, in much the same way that Bonnie and Clyde, John Dillinger, and other criminals were heroes to Depression-era Americans. People who seem to be striking at the powers-that-be, and getting away with it, tend to galvanize the anti-government feelings that some people have, percolating under the surface.
