Just depends on what you consider down side.

I can make a pretty good list.

Pointless Commanders Calls- You hear the same thing everyone, dont drink and drive, use the buddy system, pretty much just dont be dumb. Some one always messes it up.

Working 12hr days for no reason, just sittin around staring at the wall or eachother.

Working as a augmenty, this su*ked worked 14-16 hr days. Got to gaurd a 20ft wall. The plane was on the other side of this wall so yea that made for some fun nights.

Everyone says you get free medical, yea you get what you pay for. Took me about 3 and a 1/2 years for them to finally get my shoulder worked on. Had torn my rotator cuff, well the doctors kept saying I had strained a muscle. Do have to say dental is good though.

Being Volontold to do things.

Not getting reconized for awards, because I thought it was more important to do my job, than volonteer and take school.

Having people being nosey as hell about my personal life.

People seem to have a Im better than everyone my **** dont stink attitude. That got anoying.

Most everyone is out for themselves. Although there are a few that are stand up people. Not as many as there should be.

All in all I didnt like it, It did do me good and I did have alot of fun and make some life long friends, but Im glad Im a Civilian again.

my grandfather was in the air force for 20 yrs, my ex husband served, and i have several friends that are currently in the service. they all love it. i would say that if you don't like waking up early in the morning to do physical fittness then that is a downer. at the charleston air force base each division deciedes if they want to do group pt or let the individuals do it on their own. well, most do group pt and work out at 0600 which for me would suck. and living in dorms isn't a must. that is only if you want, if you can't find another place. and if you don't mind someone giving you orders then its a great way of life. if it wasn't for those two things, mainly taking orders, then i would've gone in. i'm just too hot headed to take orders and not be a smartass.

It is a huge commitment. It will change your entire life in good and bad ways. I had twwo freinds who went into the AIr Force. They felt like they wasted 5 years of their lives. Make sure you learn a job that is useful outside the AIr Force.

Let's see. Negative.....um.....living in the dorm can suck. But the good news is that you have at most only one roommate. Marching in parades sucks. Being shipped to a country where you are taller even at 5'4" than even most of the men sucked. That's about it. Air Force is a great way of Life!

well, for one thing.. they are downsizing right now, so they are VERY picky about who they are letting in period.

chances are, you WILL deploy at least once during your term of enlistment.

ALL the branches offer the same benefits when it comes to pay, GI Bill, Housing and other pays and allowances. they don;t treat their people any bettre or worse than any other branch. Quality of Life is subjective.

you enlist becuase you want to serve you country, any other reason is just a side issue.

All Air rigidity Bases are significant. in case you pick to understand it really is the biggest i'll assert Andrews Air rigidity Base because thats the position Air rigidity one is saved. Then i'll assert Cape Canaveral as thats the position the gap Shuttles are saved.

Been in for nearly eight years...only downside for me is having to deploy so much these days. But it's a part of enlisting, so you grow to deal with it very quickly. Good Luck and hope yo umake the right decision for you. Go BLUE!
