I have always just done close family so my little ones dont get overwhelmed by a large amount of people and then they dont really enjoy themselves. but if you have an extremely close family then maybe you would feel better having all of them there. The more people you have over, the more work it will be and probably the less time you will have to sit back and enjoy watching your child.

Babies get really overwhelmed by too many people so I would try to limit the guests to close family and friends. And keep things simple, don't stress out over making things perfect...your daughter will probably enjoy the boxes more than the presents and will enjoy the cake on her face more than in her mouth. Just stay relaxed about everything and you will have a wonderful birthday party for your little girl!

For a child under about the age of 5 - parties are more for the parents than the child. Do whatever you're comfortable with. Having the grandparents and aunts and uncles over for cake is fine. If you feel like throwing a blowout bash for a hundred people, that's fine too. But remember, your daughter won't really care who's there and who isn't and might be overwhelmed by a lot of people.

It is upto to you what you want to do. Personally, I had a huge bash, invited 100 people, because it is traditional in my family to go all out for the first birthday. What have other people in your family done, maybe you can ask around discreetly to see if people are expecting to be invited? Then plan accordingly.

I had three small parties for my daughter's first birthday. One for each side of the family and one for friends. To me this made her first birthday a milestone without being overwhelming to her.

I always just did my close family and close friends.
We made some food(zitta, meatballs) and had a sesame street cake.
Don't do anything too too big, it could be overwhelming for a 1 year old
