It's fiction so convincingly written that there are those who believe it's true.

Believe me, no-one can tell you all about The Da Vinci Code on here. Why don't you read the book? It's not very long and its written in simple language. Or go and see the film, which keeps fairly accurately to the book. Remember it is FICTION. I had read The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail years before The Da Vinci Code. That's a better book, but way more complicated. The central theme of the book is that Jesus of Nazareth was married to Mary Magdalen and that she had had a child or was pregnant at the time of the Crucifixion and therefore that the bloodline of Christ has been passed down through the centuries.

Phoenix's nutshell is right on. ALL of the information though is fictional. It was based on a fraudulent document (Les Dossiers Secrets) by Peirre Plantard that was placed in France's historical department. The Plantard "made up" the document was found guilty of fraud and convicted. Everything concerning Priory of Sion, the knights Templar are all a hoax. Even the information concerning "The Last Supper" was wrong. (DaVinci himself said the painting wasn't even about the last supper.)

It's a story about a professor of symbolism (if that's the right term) that gets involved in a mystery surrounding a big secret that the Catholic church is supposedly hiding. The secret turns out to be that Jesus was married and that he had a child. A lot of people got very upset about it and took the story too seriously. A lot of people are stupid and very close minded when it comes to anyone (even a writer of fiction) insulting their beliefs.

The idea is this:
Jesus was actually married to Mary Magdalene.
They had a kid.
After Jesus died Mary and her daughter Sarah fled to France.
Sarah carried on the bloodline of Jesus.
The Church has gone to great lengths to cover this up to eliminate the sacred feminine.
The Knights Templar were somehow involved in protecting proof of this secret.

It is a really good book, quite a page-turner. I did not see the movie, I hear it is not too good. It is a work of fiction.
