One thing I have learned in life is that the ones who claim to be religious are the ones you most need to watch out for. The hypocrisy never ceases to amaze.
People who are truly spiritual do not feel the need to preach, or worse yet, judge others. They simply live their lives well and lead by example instead of empty words.

This is a good question but the reasoning is flawed. It is not correct to equate loving people with loving their lifestyles.
The Bible says that Christ died for us while we were yet sinners. This death was the manifestation of God's wrath and judgement on sin. Those who come to Christ receive forgiveness and now are judged through the power of the cross. However, those who reject Him are still under condemnation and will be judged at the final day.
To love someone and not love what they do is 2 different things. The fact is, if I love you and see that you are doing something that is going to destroy you, then wouldn't I say something about it? To sit back and allow people to live a lifestyle that Jesus Himself taught would separate you from God is not love but cowardice. Jesus Himself called the Pharisees vipers and hypocrites. He told the adultress to go and sin no more. He told the disciples that their love was perverted and called Peter Satan! It is not correct to say that Jesus didn't confront people's lifestyles - you have not read the entire Gospels.
Let's say for a moment that you believe in a place called hell (even if you don't). If it were true beyond all doubt, wouldn't you want to know? If Jesus said "Unless you believe that I am the Christ you shall die in your sins" (John 8:24) wouldn't you want to know? This is what Christians believe is truth. You can accept it or not. It doesn't make me better than anyone. It just means that I care.

We, as Christians, are supposed to love all people and, as you say "hate the sin, not the sinner." However, we are also supposed to help them to see the fact that they are sinning against God and to ask Him for forgiveness and turn away from their sin.
The reason that so many "Christians" look down at others for their sins as if being a Christian makes them a better person is because we are human and, therefore, sinful, flawed people. That doesn't make bashing people and putting on airs as if you are better than someone else ok. But, you asked for the reason behind it: the reason behind it is because we are all sinful human beings.
As Christians, we are called to strive to be like Christ in all ways. Including loving everyone, regardless of their sins. Just as Christ loved us, regardless of our sins. The reality is that is a hard thing for most people to do.

It does. Not excusing by any means the behavior of such Christians, but it is impossible to be perfect and not sin. Holding a Christian up to those standards is no more fair than what they themselves are doing, we are all human. I will say this, though, in hating the sin, you tend to distance yourself from it, and in doing so, may give the appearance of looking down on the people when you are not looking down on the person at all. Looking down on others for their sins, is definitely not what Christianity is all about. You have that correct, but don't make the same mistake and lump "Christians" into a group that you put down because of an action by some you hate, you know?

I am the first to say that I am a sinner. I completely agree that Jesus loved the sinner and we have no right to look down on others. In God's eyes all sin is the same so no one is better than anyone else and as the bible says We all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. I just feel so blessed to have God's forgiveness because I have had those feelings of being better than someone else. We are all so very lucky to have that kind of forgiveness.

God is love I agree with you.
He hates sin. A lie, murder, gay lifestyle its all the same to God its sin.
That is why Jesus told us not to judge the world.
I don't agree with a homosexual lifestyle but I can't condemn someone for it or Christ will judge me for judging them.
I pray your mom repents and becomes a better example for you and others.
People won't see the light of Christ in us if we're looking down on them.
Don't allow the short comings of some to keep you from seeking and knowing the truth about Jesus.

Jesus did hang out with sinners, otherwise He would not want to have fellowship with me, I am a forgiven sinner. I do not hate gays anymore than Jesus does. We we do not hang out with unbelievers of any kind how can we be a witness to His love and saving grace. Granted we are not to be of the world. Jesus DID hang out and love sinners- He said HE loves the whole world, and apart from Christ we all sin- however He also tells us , as he told the woman caught in adultery- GO AND SIN NO MORE.

You are absolutely correct. And yes, it is wrong to bash anyone...even if you are not religious, its just basic human kindness and decent, educated behavior.
I am sorry about your mom, but you know, many people think someone is looking down on them when they are not at all. As a Christian I sometimes just get fed up with all the put downs and I feel insulted, upset and start taking it personally when I know its not meant that way at all. And I will grant you that some people do look down on others, for lots of reasons.
This world would be a much better place if all of us would just treat other people with basic decency, the way we would like to be treated.

I cant tell you for sure why your mom is the way she is, but I will agree with you in saying that it goes against Jesus' teachings. I am the same way sometimes, I think it is easier to haye the sinner than the actual sin. I am not against homosexuality however, my best friend is a lesbian and she is one of the best people I have ever known. I think people are wrong about gays for the most part, I dont think they choose to be gay and I dont think they are evil people, thats just ignorant. I think that people hate the sinner rather than the sins because it is easier for them. Just my opinion.

God got here to earth and died so as that sins could be forgiven. He did that via fact He loves the sinners. yet, the Bible is sparkling that God hates sin (as you're able to assume in the event that they have been nailing you to a circulate for them). people who have faith that Jesus become all-loving look to miss that he's the comparable God via fact the wrathful God defined in some factor interior the previous testomony. the finished Bible is the written revelation of God to guy. Ignoring the wrathful nature of God is a severe blunders. asserting that the absence of the phraseology interior the Bible shows that the assumption isn't interior the Bible is obviously no longer actual and is a particularly obtrusive lapse in good judgment. Why could God ought to forgive something He does no longer hate besides?

I am a christian and I don't like the gay life style but that doesn't mean that I hate the person. Gays like everyone else have a right to shelter, food on their table , clothes on their back and the ability to work without being felt threaten. I don't feel that i am better than them or anyone for that matter. Some people just need someone to look down on because they themselves don't feel sufficient.
