I spent a month backpacking the country 3 years ago.

it is FANTASTIC!

Start in Istanbul, visit Gallipoli (Eceabat), Selcuk / Kusadasi (Ephesus), Koycegiz, Fethiye / Oludeniz, Olypmos, Lake Egirdir, Cappadocia, and either head to the East to visit the moutains, or head back to Istanbul.

One more thing, if you go to Gallipoli (Eceabat), stay at TJ's Hostel (see links below) as they have tours by a world renowned historian and specialist on the Gallipoli campaign (a guy called Kenan)

Oludeniz has one of the worlds best beaches, and is one of the best places in the world for para-gliding.

I'd suggest you book a tour with Fez Travel - they are excellent and you'll be travelling with other travellers who are young, fun-loving, and interested in seeing all the sights!

And everywhere you go, stay in Hostels to meet other travellers!

I love Turkiye. If you are thinking about going there, I can strongly recommend you to go. If you want to feel the history, then Istanbul is the natural choice. But, I would also recommend a trip to Bursa, the first capital of the Ottoman a very beautiful city on the foot of Uludag mountain. In Bursa you should visit Cumalıkızık, an old Ottoman village from the 14'th century!

I was there a few years ago on a trekking trip. We started in Istanbul, which is a wonderful city, and then travelled by train to the Asian part of the country, Anatolia, and started a big trekking adventure. Quite hot weather in August but lovely people, great food and a really beautiful landscape!

Depends on the city and the part of the city. Istanbul is a giant city, it's so beautiful. What I don't like is only it's heavy traffic.
